June 7 - Pocono Raceway Flyover

Prior to the start of the Pocono NASCAR race today, we were treated to a flyover by a C-5 from the 167th Airlift Wing of the West Virginia ANG. After flying down the front stretch as the National Anthem was ending, they made a big turn and headed straight for the grandstand...

    Excellent, Moose!

I spent the past week lakeside in the Poconos, and as I sat there with my family, my sister said "Phil, there's a plane." I looked up and saw this C-5, which was in a holding pattern at about 3,000 feet, flying right overhead 5 times over about 20 minutes, I assume as he waited to be called to the raceway.

Very glad you got some shots! I was in flip flops, knee deep in water trying to catch fishies.

Thanks guys! Phil, you're right, during the pre-race ceremonies, I could see him orbiting off to the north, waiting for his cue. You weren't at Lake Harmony, were you? The road through the resort there is part of my "back way" to the track.

Negative. Arrowhead Lake is where I was. I used to go there yearly as a child and finally made it back after 18 years. Good times and a great surprise flyby. While the raceway had the one, I got 5 flybys.
