    US 1549 Co-Pilot Back In the Cockpit

    Jeff Skiles, Sully's heroic co-pilot from Flight 1549, has smooth return to cockpit after furlough

    DETROIT - Airline pilot Jeff Skiles, hailed as a hero for helping Capt. Chesley (Sully) Sullenberger make a splash landing on the Hudson River, was back in the cockpit Monday.

    Except for a 30-mph wind gust or two to deal with, the flying ace returned towork with little fanfare and a lot less drama than the last time he was at the controls.

    "It felt really good. It all came right back to me," Skiles, 49, said after flying from Charlotte, N.C., to Detroit with 123 passengers, including a Daily News reporter, onboard. [Full Article]

    As I previously mentioned I was very fortunate to have about a 15-20 minute one on one visit with Jeff at work a few weeks ago and what a GREAT person, one of the nicest pilots I have met and I have known a lot in my career.

    Any word if Sully is going to go back to work? It seems like he doesn't really have to with his new multimillion $$$ book deal, and I'm sure he would make a comfortable living on the lecture circuit.

    Just read about this guy in an article on Wired: http://www.wired.com/culture/art/news/2 ... light_1549

    Apparently he got US Airways to give him access to the barge and the whole salvage and movement and dismantling....as long as he PHOTOSHOPPED OUT THE US AIRWAYS TITLES AND LOGOS on several of the photos. Very very lame. The photos are okay, not really many unique angles that I hadn't seen before. Not very interesting IMO. (And he seems like kind of a douche based on the photo captions he wrote in the Wired piece.)

    Actually, photographers don't usually write the captions in magazine use; it's almost always a copy editor or photo editor that does that.

    And I fail to understand why he had to Photoshop out the US Airways livery; it's been reported elsewhere that he was working for Weeks Marine, but *not* on a "work-for-hire" contract. So he owned the rights to his own photos. First the NTSB forced him to take them down, then they relented. Then US Airways, Weeks' parent company, and AIG forced him to take them down, then let him put them back up if they were altered. But he was given the access by Weeks, and they didn't own his pictures. No one should have been able to force him to take down the pictures or alter them, as they were his.

    Wow!! I do apologize. I was just trying to make conversation. I really didn't know your thoughts on the guy. We have a mutual agreement on him being lame for Photoshoping out the titles and logos. I just read a brief article about him in Professional Photographers Magazine (http://www.ppmag.com) this month, saw he had some NY stuff and thought you all would be interested.

    oh, I'm not upset at all. Just saying that he likely wasn't responsible for the captions.

    and that I have no clue why he had to alter his pictures or take them down.
