Rangel to reintroduce military draft measure

    01/14/09

Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) likely will introduce his controversial legislation to reinstate the draft again this year, but he will wait until after the economic stimulus package is passed.

Asked if he plans to introduce the legislation again in 2009, Rangel last week said, “Probably … yes. I don’t want to do anything this early to distract from the issue of the economic stimulus.”

Rangel’s military draft bill did create a distraction for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) soon after Democrats won control of Congress after the 2006 election.

Is this a distraction, too? Maybe Mr. Rangel is getting cuffed soon?
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.

what a moron! why on earth would you want to do something like this now. there is so much anti-war sentiment in this country the draft could end up worse than vietnam...
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

Reverse psychology so to speak. Rangel feels that if everyones' sons and daughters, husbands and wives are eligible for the draft then parents and spouses, especially those who are politicians will get the ball rolling to end the Iraq war quickly. I'm not sure how this applies to Afghanistan unless he feels pressure will get the president-elect to keep his eye on the ball and be successful there as well.

Drafts don't stop when a war ends.

Rangel is clearly trying to become the most loved politician in the land!

No they don't. But he's believing wars will be harder to start with the Draft in place.

Yes, thats exactly right. Virtually none of these hawks have their kids in combat..... Not sure the Military wants/needs or would benefit from such an influx, but then again, if occupying countries is on the agenda, more folks are needed.... (and money too, if that ever matters....perhaps Charlie can pay his full taxes in the meantime).
