Once again this year, I had the honor of attending the Pearl Harbor Anniversary Ceremony at the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport. The ceremony is presented by the Long Island chapter of the Air Force Association, and is held in conjunction with the annual ceremony of dropping roses at the Statue of Liberty. We had 5 local residents who are Pearl survivors honored at the ceremony today. I have many shots to go through, but here are a few I'd like to share...
Survivors Richard Abeles and Gerard Barbosa
Plaque presented to each of the survivors
Commander of the local Naval Reserve unit along with sailors carrying the roses.
Pearl Harbor survivors Richard Abeles, Gerard Barbosa, Frank Castronova, and Seymour Blutt standing in front.
Naval Reserve members holding roses for the ceremonial drop. The roses were blessed by a Naval Reserve Rabbi using water taken from near the USS Arizona.
Unfortunately, due to the weather (low clouds, snow showers and high winds) the flight over the Statue was canceled.
