Spirit Begins Plastering Cabins With Ads

    Press Release:
Spirit Airlines Launches Mile High Media

New Advertising Opportunities Offer Marketers the Ability to Reach Millions of
Captive Consumers with Over 2,000 Times the Impact of Traditional Media

Miramar, Florida (September 17, 2008) - Searching for an innovative and cost effective way to reach millions of consumers? Looking to grab the attention of a captive audience that travels throughout the U.S., Caribbean and Latin America? Look no further than Mile High Media by Spirit Airlines.

That’s right. Ultra low cost carrier Spirit Airlines has launched its latest innovation – customized onboard advertising. Spirit Airlines is the best value in travel for passengers and now the company’s new Mile High Media offers the best value in advertising compared to traditional media outlets. Where else can you find an average three-hour gaze time? Advertisers can choose from a variety of customizable media options including seat backs, window shades, overhead bins, tray tables, drink carts and more.

Mile High Media is featuring ads aboard all Spirit Airlines flights starting this week with its first partner, The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

“Mile High Media offers advertisers among the highest efficacy of any media delivering more sales to more people at the lowest cost of sale providing up to 2,000 times the impact of traditional media,” said Mile High Media Sales Director Michael Pewther. “In addition to providing unsurpassed value to our advertising partners, Mile High Media helps offset record fuel prices, which helps us to continue offering our customers the ultra low fares they know and love.”

Why are advertisers jumping onboard Mile High Media? Where else can you find 100 percent saturation with a targeted captive audience that will be actively engaged by your ad for an average of three hours?

Why pay for a five-second gaze time on a billboard when you have more than 2,000 times the viewing exposure aboard a three-hour flight?

Onboard advertising with Mile High Media delivers over 300 times the viewing time compared to the average 30-second TV spot, and unlike TiVo, consumers cannot ‘skip the flight’ and miss your ad. Bottom line, in this tough economy, advertisers are more cost-conscious than ever and need to stretch their advertising dollars – and Mile High Media provides the ideal solution.

Spirit also gives advertisers the opportunity to differentiate themselves from the pack as only a select few advertising partners are featured on each flight. So your ad is not lost in the shuffle competing with the hundreds of others as in newspapers, magazines and broadcast media.

Ads by The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism are being installed this week featuring the destination’s colorful and visually appealing campaign on overhead bins, tray tables and bulkheads, as well as seatback inserts with special package offers to The Bahamas from Spirit Vacations.

"The beauty of The Bahamas and an exciting incentive offer has been rolled into one for Spirit Airline's guests. We've captured The Bahamas' turquoise waters, sandy beaches and colorful architecture and are inviting travelers to daydream while inflight and save hundreds of dollars on a vacation to our tropical islands," commented David Johnson, Deputy-Director General, The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

As part of the campaign, The Bahamas and Spirit Vacations are offering a limited time special offer. Travelers who book a three-night Spirit Vacations getaway to The Bahamas will receive a $200 instant rebate, as well as a savings of up to 50 percent on hotel accommodations, kids stay free offers and other value-added offerings. Visit http://www.SpiritVacations.com/Bahamas for complete details.

Mile High Media offers an entire suite of advertising products, including onboard and online media buying opportunities that allow companies to increase brand awareness in front of a targeted audience. From overhead bins, tray tables and bulkheads, to napkins, cups and menus, or boarding passes, trash bags and soap dispensers, advertisers’ messages are placed directly in view of millions of travelers.

As an onboard advertiser, your company’s personalized messaging is placed onboard every plane throughout Spirit’s entire fleet of new Airbus aircraft on all of its flights to 43 destinations throughout the U.S., Caribbean and Latin America. In addition to onboard media, online advertising is available on http://www.spiritair.com and in various e-mail vehicles providing millions of impression opportunities every week.

For additional information and to request a complete Mile High Media media kit detailing the full suite of advertising products available onboard and online with Spirit Airlines, contact [email protected].

It's like a NYC Subway car only with overhead bins! I hope this doesn't give my management in Tempe any ideas.

I don't have any problem with this. Not like most cabins are much to look at without ads. I've never understood the industry's reluctance to do it.

Of course not in F class, but in economy I don't mind it.
