    Fatal AZ F-16 crash caused by pilot blackout

    PHOENIX -
    An Air Force investigation board has determined than an Ohio Air National Guard pilot who died when his F-16 crashed in western Arizona in March lost consciousness during a dogfighting maneuver.

    Very sad....

    It's not unheard of for pilots to blackout during G maneuvers. I've heard stories of both students and instructors blacking out during training maneuvers at flight school...

    I went flying in a F-16 last week. The G-maneuvers are pretty rough, but not as bad as I had anticipated, especially when i was doing the anti-G lock maneuvers.

    We pulled 9Gs, but were only in the turn for a few seconds. The 4 and 5 G turns we held a little longer, but weren't too rough.

    He must have held a high G turn for too long....
