Northwest flight lands despite mid-air damage

(CNN) — The nose cone of a Northwest Airlines planes caved in during a flight Sunday from Detroit, Michigan, to Tampa, Florida, without compromising the safety of the 182 passengers on board, the company said.

Back in 1985 while working for Florida Express in FLL we had a BAC-1-11 arrive on our gate with a big chunck of the nose cone missing due to a lightning strike on the flight down from MCO. Not surprisingly the front end crew needed a new pair of underware and the outbound flight back to MCO cancelled.
