American Pulling Out of OAK After 61 Years

    San Francisco Chronicle:
American Airlines to pull out of Oakland International

Jaxon Van Derbeken, Chronicle Staff Writer

(05-05) 21:07 PDT Oakland -- American Airlines, citing the high cost of fuel, will pull out of Oakland International Airport in September after six decades operating there, airport officials said Monday.

The airline has been running three daily non-stop flights out of the airport to Dallas-Ft. Worth and has been operating at Oakland since 1947.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

Re: American Pulling Out of OAK After 61 Years

American has cut back on its California service dramatically over the past few years. Even SFO only has 20 or so flights a day on AA, and San Jose which at one point was a focus city with service to NRT on a 777 is down to practically nothing. Rumor has it AA will drop Burbank to. The price of fuel is killing these airlines, something has to give soon.

Very scary situation. From what it looks like right now, and it kills me to say this, but the airlines are toast.
