British Airways to Restart LGW - JFK in October + MAN Gone

The British Airways CEO announced today that his airline will be restarting flights between LGW and JFK on October 27, 2008. The new flight will be operated daily by a 4 class 777-200.

BA2173 Departs LGW at 11:10 arriving JFK at 14:05
BA2172 Departs JFK at 18:00 arriving LGW at 06:05

British Airways operated flights between LGW and JFK up until September 11th when they were canceled.

Apparently British Airways will be dropping their MAN-JFK flight in order to send the 767-300 to LHR to free up a 777-200 for the new LGW-JFK flight. Rumor has it that Open Skies will be taking over the MAN-JFK route.

In other news the LCY-JFK flights will now be 2 daily.

Re: British Airways to Restart LGW - JFK in October + More

Finally, we will be able to see a BA777 at JFK. As strange as it sounds, its kind of rare, with no flights during daylight hours. I also look forward to seeing Open Skies.

Confirmation on the cancelation of the MAN - JFK route.

British Airways will suspend its services from Manchester to New York from the 26 October 2008.

For quite a few years LHR-JFK where all 747-136's while LGW-JFK was a DC-10. Ironically the times of the new flight are almost the same as in years past. MAN may be going away as I believe it a low yield. US's MAN-PHL A-330 is almost always overbooked in the back but very light in Envoy. Markets like FRA and CDG can be lighter in the back but full up front. And to further illustraight my point the largest connection destination by far on the MAN-PHL route is Orlando !

    Cheers

thinking of a 772 as classic is kinda strange...
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

BA 777-200 is visible nearly on a daily basis, departing JFK for LHR around 8am.

Hmm no more BA 767...to bad, it would have be interesting to have the 757 (BA Open Sky's), 747, 767, and 777 from BA at JFK. Doesn't AA serve Manchester from JFK? Might not be to much of a loss for BA then, they can simply codeshare on AA.

    I find this remarkable...

Apparently British Airways will be dropping their MAN-JFK flight in order to send the 767-300 to LHR to free up a 777-200 for the new LGW-JFK flight. Rumor has it that Open Skies will be taking over the MAN-JFK route.
Sometime we lose sight of the fact that each plane in an airline's fleet is fully utilized. Even at their main hub, they really don't have planes that sit around and ready to be switched to different routes.
