glad to see another AOPA member in the house! and thanks to ron for the heads up, but we'll be in and out of dodge before this one takes effect. don't want a -60 chasing me down...

then again on second though... ;)
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

No, but the press plane will be trackable. Just dial up ADW on Flightaware, and look for the civilian departure.

    Almost always JFK.

I just watched Air Force One depart off of 13R. There were two helicopters following the plane down the runway...an NYPD Agusta and some other seemingly unmarked gray...Bell or Jet Ranger...not sure. I don't know them too well.

FlightAware didn't have anything listed, I wouldn't be surprised if they block that info on the trackers. Wouldn't make much sense if you can easily track AF1 based on the trailing press plane.

I didn't plan to go out today but with a halfway decent sky, I decided to blow off the stuff I needed to do and ran out to Bayswater. Got there around 12:30 (had Bush's talk on the radio so I would have an idea of his schedule). They were on 4R, so I got a few generic arrivals before they switched to 13/22. I could see AF1 parked in the usual spot down by Hgr 19. Finally around 2pm, they stopped departures, numerous helicopters started buzzing around, and then Marine 1 checked in approaching the airport. I watched them arrive (too far away for any decent photos). Around 2:20, tower cleared "Air Force 1 Heavy" for take off. Of course, about 10 minutes before that, the cloud cover thickened, but I managed to get some reasonable shots.

Lifting off...lots of heat haze there!

    Look at that wing flex!

    Awesome job, Moose.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

Nice shots, Moose! I'm glad someone was able to catch it! I was watching literally from the opposite side of the heat haze photo.

I wonder if anyone WAS watching you? I say that because MANY years ago (15 maybe?) on a Saturday afternoon I
positioned myself on a pier south of the Brooklyn Bridge on the Brooklyn side and took lots of video footage of the
Marine 1 entourage landing and departing JRB for a good 20 minutes or so. Great stuff and I always wonder to this
day if anyone was watching me from Manhattan or elsewhere with some high powered binocs.
    GREAT pictures!!
I was working today but a few times did see (and hear) PD 412s buzzing about manhattan.

I would have to say with near certainty that spotters have been down the crosshairs of sniper scopes who were ready "just in case". I have no problem with it, though. Those guys are the best in the biz.
