Boeing Warns U.S. Carriers to Order Now

    Chicago Tribune:
U.S. airlines told to order jets now

    February 13, 2008

Boeing Co. said U.S. airlines risk not being able to replace their aging fleets in time unless they order new jets this year.

"We're trying to reserve some spots" in the production line for U.S. orders "because we know that has to happen this year sometime," Chief Financial Officer James Bell said Tuesday at an investment conference in Miami Beach.

Given Boeing's record backlog for new planes, timely U.S. orders are needed "to avoid an unmanageable fleet replacement period post-2012 that approaches about 1,000 aircraft," Bell said. U.S. orders make up only about 11 percent of Boeing's $255 billion backlog, Bell said. Read more...

Any Ideas what US Airlines that could order new Boeing jets?? US Airlines I think of is

American: more 737-800s (replacing older MD-80s)
Delta: more 737-800s or 700 (to replace MD-88s)
United: 747-8is or 777-300ERs (to replace some older 747-400s)
Southwest: more 737NGs (to replace older 737-300s)
Alaska: more 737NGs (to replace MD-80s)
Midwest: 737NGs (to replace MD-80s) which I believe its already planned..

I assume the rest of the US Airlines will go Airbus...

American also has to start ordering 75 and 76 replacements.

Too bad no one has money for some serious orders.

Delta is going to need some new 747's to replace the old 400's they currently have running across the pacific. ;)

I dont think Delta will be getting any 747s. they probably might buy more 777s for their asian routes. Besides, the 747s might be to big for Delta's needs anyway.

Not for the NW Asia routes, 777's wont cut it, no where near enough seats. These routes are cash cows for NW, running DTW-NRT at very high yields almost full year around.
