In Dubai, anything goes in terms of development projects as long as it can be funded and is consistent with the government's master plan to build a business and tourism hub at the crossroads between Europe, Africa and Asia. Key to the strategy is having the 'world's biggest, tallest, etc' whatever to keep people talking about Dubai and of course to attract visitors to see these things. But yeah, Hell Gate would kick their bridge's ass in a fight. :twisted:

it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

Requirements for Position of Direct Entry Captain
A minimum of 8,000 hours total flying time
A minimum of 3,000 hours in command of multi-crew, multi-engine jet aircraft in excess of 55 tonnes MTOW
4,000 hours flown in multi-crew, multi-engine jet or turbo prop aircraft with MTOW of 10 tonnes or more, as P1 or P2
Preference will be given to candidates with Boeing EFIS experience who will be eligible to undertake a short transition course
Must be a current Captain
First Officers, qualified as Cruise Captains, do not meet the Direct Entry Captain requirements
ICAO ATPL
English language fluency (written and verbal comprehension)
Requirements for Position of First Officer - A330/A340 and B777
A minimum of 4,000 hours total flying time
A minimum of 2,000 hours multi-crew, multi-engined jet aircraft experience

damn, i've got the PIC time, just not the total min they want...
those are the helo requirements from the website, but getting an ATP just to go fly in a sanbox....Unrestricted ATPL (helicopter)
Valid Class 1 Medical
3500 hours in helicopter (1200 as PIC)
100 hours night (15 in helicopter as PIC)
75 hours instrument (50 in helicopter as PIC)
Experience in Twin Engine Bell Medium Helicopters
