A bill passed in response to the 10+ hour airliner strandings at JFK this past winter and signed into law by Governor Spitzer in August took effect yesterday. Airlines are now required to provide passengers stranded for over three hours basic necessities including water, snacks, working restrooms and fresh air. Penalties for offenders range up to $100,000 per passenger per violation.
