HALIFAX -- A U.S. military aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing at the Halifax international airport Friday night after an SUV on-board started to smoke.
"Alarms were set off in the aircraft," said airport authority spokesman Peter Spurway.
Operators of the giant C-17 cargo plane, which was on its way from South Carolina to Germany, notified the air traffic control tower around 9:45 p.m. local time.
The plane landed safely just after 10 p.m.
Airport fire crews were on scene, Spurway said, and the smoking vehicle was removed from the aircraft's hold.
None of the 15 crew members on-board was injured.
They stayed overnight in a nearby hotel and were preparing to take off Saturday night.
