    Skybus Christmas Cancellations

It seems one of their ships suffered a mechanical issue that resulted in the aircraft being taken out of service UFN. The ship was flown to Mobile, AL (BFM) for repair and never made it above 10,000 feet apparently due pressurization problems.

    Christmas Day:
COLUMBUS, Ohio - At least two Skybus flights were canceled at Port Columbus International Airport on Tuesday, leaving nearly 250 people stranded at the airport and without their families for Christmas.

The problems started on Tuesday morning when one of the planes that flies to multiple cities experienced a mechanical problem. It touched off a chain reaction of cancellations, 10TV's Kevin Landers reported.

Marissa Malcovsky's flight to Chattanooga, Tenn., was canceled, along with other flights to Burbank, Calif., and Biloxi, Miss.

"It's just horrible to treat people like this," said the girl's mother, Denise Malcovsky.

    And more this morning:
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Discount airline Skybus canceled more flights out of Port Columbus International Airport on Wednesday morning.

A flight to Bellingham, Wash. at 6:05 a.m. was canceled, along with a 6:45 a.m. flight to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., 10TV News reported.

So much for a smooth Christmas season for Skybus. I give them 6 months tops.

If just one mechanical failure causes that much of a problem, they will be lucky if they last for another 6 months

Well remember they only have something like 4 planes? One goes does and 25% of their operation gets screwed up. How long they last as a business I doubt will have something to do with this incident. Look what happened to jetBlue last Feb, their entire system crashed and they are still around. I don't think SkyBus will last in general but I don't think this will have a lasting effect unless the MX issue is somehow connected with a poor MX record that has yet to be uncovered.

People, if you want to be with your families on Christmas, you don't fly Skybus...

Tommy, the thing is though, that their schedule should not be so tightly packed that one aircraft that goes mechanical causes this much trouble. They tried to expand way too fast with only 4 airplanes...

but that's the business world today, do more with less.
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

hmmm 9 planes then they really are leaving no room for error and based on their model they would never hire any lift to get these people to their homes. Lesson learned to the customer....don't fly Skybus again.

Not only won't they hire another carrier to get you home, but chances are you'll be at an airport that doesn't have any other flights to wherever you're going even if you want to pay for it. You're better off pounding the 'hound.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

It wasn't one plane but two so yes the amount of cancellations probably were to be expected.
