    Eastern Airlines (Express) DC-3

So I was BSing around on A.net and I came across this....

    http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0076617/L/

Eastern farmed out lift to PBA on DC-3's in the late 80s? I was shocked to see this. Eastern even then was still a large U.S Airline and to think they used a regional airline that had DC-3s is just wild! I couldn't imagine buying a ticket on a mainline U.S Airline in the late 80s and then flying on a DC-3, that's just wild to me!!! Does anyone know what routes they did?

    Wow, insane.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

Damn that is nuts. What a classic. My dad may know the routes. Got a call into him.

it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

Found a blog of some guy who worked for PBA at that time and he said PBA operated the DC3s as COEX and EALEX with flights from Boston to Cape Cod and Miami to the the keys. Will call dad now and see if he has any more info.

Used to see these all the time at Nantucket/ACK in the late 80s.

MIA to the Fla Keys is what I remember. I think this was a very limited operation with just a handful of aircraft. When it was plain old PBA the 3'S flew all over their system both in Florida and New England.
