    The hypocracy of it all

Okay, I have been followi the story of this child Youssif pretty closely for the most part and I will say that it is sweet, it is warm and fuzzy, etc. but it boils my friggin blood. Someone wrote a $45,000 check among other large donations for a foreign child injured by a foreign individual in a foreign nation. Notice the frequent use of the word foreign? Notice how my tone is not one of compassion? that is because I find it ironic that we are soo focued on this childs well being when in reality it is none of our business, Sound like a familiar plight?

Well it is the same one the liberal media has been pumping out since we went to Iraq. We have no business there, it is a foreign issue, and has no direct relation to the USA blah blah blah. Well this kid has no relation to the USA and nor did what happened to him so why in the hell are we dumping $300,000 on his cause but we will not address the issues within our own nation with our funds.
People do not want to put the money forth to fund internal issues and those in need here within our boarders but foreingers (mexicans, Iraqi's and the gammot) are getting a free ride on medical, school, food etc.... That makes no sense to me. How about more money into medical funds for the needy americans, or college cash for people who need it? Why are we so willing to piss our money away on the people that as far as I am concerned count for $hit in my book but the ones we should be worried about are getting a raw deal?

Well, there is legitimate charity - whether it is here or abroad.

When the US govt goes abroad, especially leading with airstrikes to knock out command and control and establish aerial supremacy, it is not generally an exclusively altruistic mission.

There are many many many social programs for domestic consumption... that are successful/unsuccessful to whatever extent. Many of them require a whole infrastructure or at least payroll to administer.

What the media makes of it all and what consumers believe or care or able to think about it all, I have no idea.

I do know there was that tidbit a couple of months ago about more Americans killed domestically (in one way or another) than American soldiers killed in Iraq. Not that it makes a case by itself one way or another.

I agree with Ryan here. This boy, albeit a sad story, was injured by men from his own country, IN his own country. Now, SOMEHOW, the news agencies picked this kid over all the US Soldiers that are being injured fighting for our country overseas, and now you have people in OUR country donating money to his cause.

Where is the Support Your Troops movement now? Why aren't the affluent folks in the country, who by the way, most likely found someone high enough up the chain to keep their kids home out of the fighting, not donating to help the injured soldiers who need help???

Yes Ryan, this BOILS my blood too.
