Something New (Sort of) to shoot at JFK

Starting this Sunday Aug 19th JFK will have a new visitor (sort of). Even though HP used to fly the 757 to JFK in the not so recent past now US (West) will bring the 757 back to JFK but this time in US's new livery. The 757 will serve JFK six days a week (unfortuantly an A-320 operates this flight on Saturdays) but light wise the schedule is good. US 12 PHX-JFK arrives at 1659 and US 17 JFK-PHX departs at 1755. There are 15 US West 757's and 14 are in the new US Livery. N901AW is still in the Arizona Livery but is scheduled for repaint in mid September, hopefully she will make a few JFK visits before then.

    Enjoy

I was missing the America West 757-200s at JFK, granted they won't be in special liveries any more but it will be nice to see the new colors. I guess we won't be seeing any wingletted birds?

Wow this is actually big to me. I'm very eager to get a pic of that! I love US 757s, as you might recall Ron. :)

Yes Phil I know you have a Special fondness for these birds. And no winglets at JFK this fall, as these are West aircraft and the 6 wingletted birds (757E's as we call them at US) are all East birds. The long term 757 plan is return all 15 West 757's plus the older ex Eastern East 757's to the lesser. The remaining approx 20 strong fleet will be the three recently acquired ex ATA birds and the 4 other ETOPS East birds. All the other East 2B7's that remain will all be converted to ETOPS standards including winglets. Their primary missions will be Hawaii, smaller European markets, certain Vegas Transcons, and certain Caribbean markets such as SXM.

    Cheers

Ron what's the reason for US/HP to bring the 757 back to JFK? The fall is generally a slow period of time for the airlines so I'm curious as to the reason for the extra capacity. Certainly will be nice to see a US 757 in these parts though.

Good to know. Given that US 757 don't come to LGA, this saves me a trip to PHL to catch US 757

Good question Tommy. While yes Transcon demand does fall off in the fall (no pun entended) the JFK-PHX market has very high demand period and so I believe the demand for these extra seats are still there. For Sept and Oct Hawaii demand falls way off and US is reducing freqs in most Hawaian markets which is where the freed up 757 comes from. JFK keeps it on the OCT schedule and it then goes 7 days a week I think with the 75 but with the mid November schedule change I believe Hawaii returns full schedule and this flight will probably return to an A-320. So enjoy her while you can !

I doubt anyone is out with the crappy weather but just in case N905AW is operating US12 for day 1 of US 757 service to JFK, running late ETA JFK 1811.

Not that it matters anymore, but for those of you that are interestd, N905AW used to be the Ohio special scheme plane. I miss the days when there were SIX special scheme HP 757s based at PHX...

Re: Something New (Sort of) to shoot at JFK

    Ok..Guess I am a bit confused here... :-P

    1. US Airways (east) never sent any 757's to JFK?
    2. US Airways (west) always had JFK-PHX on a 757 did they not?
    3. Are any West 757's in the AWA Colors or all in US New colors I assume?

So my guess is, the excitement is that the 757's are being brought back to JFK by America West, but only in US Colors, making it seem like US Airways (east) is finally bringing a 757 to JFK, with the assumption that US Airways EAST has yet to ever send their own 757's to JFK correct?

Re: Something New (Sort of) to shoot at JFK

America West used to bring in the 757-200 to JFK but then stopped and instead brought in the A319s and A320s. This is the first time we will be seeing 757-200s in US Airways colors however not the first time we have seen America West 757-200s at JFK. We are of course excited because they are bringing them back and as well they will be in a different scheme now.

Well the weather today is misreable so N901AW's (Ariziona Scheme) first visit to JFK in quite a while will probably go undocumented but she is operating US 12 today (Tuesday 8-21) ETA 1711.

I liked the regular green livery on the 757s too, so none left in the green c/s now huh

How many A320's or 319's still in the green livery? I always passed those up since they were so common down here in Florida. But now that I need a shot of them they're probably all repainted! Great.

There are few 320's left but the 319's where completed a few months ago. I think there are only around 5-10 AW colored aircraft still flying (320's + 733's) and they will be gone by the end of the fall. This is not Delta !

Re: Something New (Sort of) to shoot at JFK

LGA, do you have info on when the green AW 320s are stopping by MCO?

Yes it's definitely not Delta! and glad. Since the better 2 DL liveries (the 2 older ones) lasted for a while. Still see the 98 livery on a few 757s.. and they just look sooo good like never before. Even the green Song that's still around seems so much more interesting to me than the Deltaflot and the ugly new scheme (whatever it's called).

The new US livery although being the same boring dark blue + white, isn't too bad.
