I unexpectedly found myself with nothing to do Saturday, so I took a ride over to FBF to check out the historic aircraft restoration hangar. They have some neat stuff in there, and the folks working there are all too eager to talk with you as long as you would like about the aircraft.
Navy P-2 Neptune:
C-97
Beechcraft C-45
C-47 cockpit
Grumman HU-16 Albatross
A-4 Skyhawk
HH-3
They have a Catalina they are working on too - this is a PBY-5A
And this absolutely gorgeous Grumman Goose in NYPD markings.
This is Robert Miller, one of the volunteers. He told me about his years working on the ferries and other boats that ran between Brooklyn and other points in the area. He is trying to determine what ship this propeller came from. It was found in Canarsie, off an old shipwreck.
Also got to see some NYPD helicopters operating in and out of their facility.
It's definitely worth the trip - they are open Saturday afternoons and a couple of days during the week. There is no admission charge, some interesting airplanes and historical artifacts, as you can see you can climb through a number of the aircraft, and the volunteers are glad to take the time to answer all your questions.
