Flight Tries To Land At Logan Without Landing Gear

(WBZ) BOSTON An American Eagle flight attempted to make a landing at Logan Airport with no landing gear this morning.

The airline says it is Flight 4539, a regional jet flying from Toronto to Boston, with 40 people on board. There are 37 passengers, 2 pilots and 1 flight attendant.

A witness told WBZ the flight tried to make a belly landing without its landing gear around 8 a.m. It failed to land properly, sparks flew and the plane took off again. The witness said there may be nose damage to the plane.

The plane is still in the air and is in the process of attempting another landing, this time with the landing gear.

There are emergency crews on the runway as a precaution.

The flight landed safely at 9:30. One report says the crew did not realize the nose gear was not extended during the first landing attempt, which is why they pulled up. No word yet if the gear was extended during the final landing, and I'm searching for video of it.

The gear was down, looks like bad weather in Boston prevented any news choppers from capturing video of the landing. It was an ERJ135.

Flight Makes Safe Emergency Landing At Logan

(WBZ) BOSTON An American Eagle flight landed safely at Logan Airport Wednesday morning, about an hour after missing an earlier approach because of suspected landing gear problems.

Flight 4539, a regional jet flying from Toronto to Boston, with 40 people on board tried to make a belly landing without its landing gear around 8:20 a.m.

A witness told WBZ the flight failed to land properly, sparks flew and the plane took off again.

The pilot reported a possible problem with the landing gear.

Massport spokesman Phil Orlandella said air traffic controllers viewed the plane during two flybys and did not see any visible problems with the gear.

The plane circled the airport for nearly an hour before landing safely around 9:30 a.m.

Orlandella says the plane is expected to be towed to the gate.
