Went to Bayport Saturday for the picnic and got to see a bunch of great old aeroplanes and meet some great folks. Here are some photos . . .

Getting ready to fly a Piper Cub:

    Navy N3N:

You have to watch the shrubbery when operating out of Bayport:

    Fueling up a Fleet biplane:

    Restoring a Yak-12:

One of the members of the aerodrome gave a tour of the aircraft and hangars:

One of the pilots brought me in to his hangar to show me the Piper Cub he is restoring - she should be ready to fly by the end of the summer:

They raffled off a few airplane rides, and then a number of the pilots started taking people up for rides. I scored a ride in this Stearman biplane - my first ride in an open cockpit biplane!

This is Bob Fritts, the owner of the Stearman, and my pilot.

It was a fun day, topped off by an outstanding ride in the Stearman. I'll post some shots from the flight in another thread. If you get the chance, stop by Bayport for a visit. The aircraft are neat, and everyone is friendly and eager to talk about them.

    Here's a link to my Stearman flight . . .

Absolutely glorious photographs! Stunning. I can appreciate these old birds as without them this industry which makes the world go round would not have it's roots. I love it! true airmenship is founded on flying things like that. I will be the first to admit that like that short video we had on here a while ago says there are no real pilots anymore.
