    LGA "Big" Aircraft Types?

    Greetings,

What are the largest Boeing aircraft types operating in/out of LGA ... any 767's and 777's?

Is the A320 he largest Airbus type?

    Thanks.

The largest aircraft operating into LGA would be 767-300s.

The 767-400, L-1011, and DC-10 have all operated into the airport in the past.

    Further to my first ...

Is it safe to say that Boeing 777's have never operated in and out of LGA?

I could have sworn I've seen ... and heard them (a deeper than normal roar) ... coming in to runway 31 over where I live in Flushing.

Not enough room for a "Safe" landing on normal operations.

There was a study doen by Boeing and the FAA to create a 777-200 with "fold up" wings like fighter jets on an aircraft carrier, specifically for LGA. However, the plan never took flight (sorry).

now here is a bit of trivia. the B707 and DC-8 are not allowed to operate into LGA, who here knows why? there are two main reasons for that.
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

The MLG width and good question on the other one. MLG width versers weight out on the peirs.

I'm going to say weight distribution and width of the wings. Maybe even runway length at the time these planes were flying.......they were a little less than 7,000ft if I'm correct.

you're both right. the main reason they're not allowed is because of gear loading. now, this rule is outdated, it mainly had to do with the amount of weight the piers could support back then, not sure about now. the other factor, more relevant today is simply noise abatement.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9
