Plane Carrying 157 People Lands Without Nose Gear

SANFORD, Fla. -- A plane with malfunctioning landing gear touched down safely at Orlando Sanford International Airport on Thursday afternoon, officials said.
Allegiant Air flight 758 from Portsmouth, N.H. landed without its nose gear at 4:16 p.m. None of the 157 people on board were injured during the landing, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said.
Passengers and crew evacuated the aircraft via slides. A woman sprained her ankle, but refused treatment, airport authorities said.
"The crew reported a hydraulics problem related to the nose gear," Bergen said.
The plane circled the area while communicating with the base about how to proceed before landing safely.
"The aircraft experienced a hydraulic problem with the front nose-gear. The nosegear was not coming down. they circled around for an hour and finally managed to land without it," Diane Crews, executive vice president of Orlando Sanford International Airport told CNN.

I took my first Multi-Engine flight today...fortunatly we had to come back early due to a malfunctioning cowlflap on the right engine. I was happy I had my camera with me today as I wanted to get shots of the Marnarch A300.
What an amazing experience it was to see that MD-80 fly past me with no nose gear deployed and then when that fuselage hit the ground it was nothing but Metal on concrete scraping! The pilot shot the engines down while deployed imediately after the plane came to a stop!

Another "Great Catch" Senga, I was hoping you where there with your camera today and I am glad everyone is okay. Can I assume all the guys in the blue shirts are how you dress also ? Congrats on the Multi-Engine flight, Seminole I assume ?

Hi Ron,
Yes I was lucky enough to have the camera with me. I took it today to get a shot of the Monarch A300 that came into SFB today. Sometimes I take the camera with me sometimes I don't.
Yes at DCA the students have blue shirts and the instructors have white shirts.

Must be our week for NY guys to catch some Florida problems. Unlike you though, I got mine after the fact. :cry: C couple hours earlier we'd noticed choppers hanging above the airport but had no idea what had happened until we boarded our return flight home. Unfortunately my windown wasn't very clear so the shot isn't great.
I found out later that the plane's gear collapsed after it had landed and moved off the active runway.
