    Hagerstown Maryland (HGR) - 12/30/06

    Hi Guys,

Today I went with Blendi to HGR airport to get few missing frames. The biggest surprise was USAF C-82 Packet. Unfortunately, she was parked in ackward position for pictures. I think HGR is the only place in USA where you can see original Eastern bird. All pictures are laptop edits.
    Here is what we've got:

    HGR 12/30/06

    Air North
    DC-3

    Dash 7

    Eastern Airlines
    Boeing 727-200

    Pan Am
    Boeing 727-200

    Scout
    Prototype

    USAF
    Fairchild C-82A Packet

N9701F (cn 10184) Bought by the Hagerstown Aviation Museum and flown from Greybull, WY to her new home in Hagerstown, MD on 12-15 October 2006.

    Take care,

    RAFAL - OUTSTANDING...

I can't believe you came across a Packet and a Dash 7 both. Worthwhile trip in my book.

I guess I can catch the Packet next time I drive by that way, but whats the deal behind that Dash 7??

    Hi Tom,

Dash 7 has been there for almost a year now. Its missing one engine. The funny thing is, its parked on the active ramp.

Packet, that is new addition to HGR airport. Its not going anywhere.

Air North DC-3 is based out of that airport so you can get it easly.

727s and Scout prototype have been at HGR for ages.

There is also Avenger but its not shootable right now.

Cool catches! I was looking at the packet and wondering how its different from the ...Boxcar? The one in the Phoenix movie? Is that an engine on top?
And I, I took the path less traveled by
and that has made all the difference......yet...
I have a feeling a handle of people are going to be very interested in what I post in the near future.

They're fairly close Mario (in my opinion at least...)

The AirForce Museum in Dayton has both types outside side by side last I knew. There were at least two other "airworthy" (barely I am thinking) of these types (perhaps Boxcars actually) in the US (maybe one was in Alaska) in recent years.. not saying they were going anywhere though.

This thread caused me to remember - maybe Rafal remembers - some seasoned spotter on the W-DC/Baltimore spotters group thought he had seen a BoxCar (or Packet) flying in the area.. of course he was peppered with alternatives.. I thought this might be his vindication, but I see this one just came from Greybull, so I guess not. [But hey, you never know..I saw a Neptune flying about 4,000 feet over NY Harbor some years back.. have to assume it was the one that belongs to the Mid Atlantic Air Museum, but never did find out).

Just to add some more..on A.net there's nice images nearly every year some the UK spotters get of an airworthy aircraft similar to our BoxCars/Packets... I believe it is a Noratlas.. (might've gotten the type wrong. in an attractive green trim scheme..)

Regarding the thing on the top of the Packet..yes, it looks like an engine..I don't think that was the standard for the type though.. (but again, could be mistaken there..)

Darn, I was pretty unlucky then in retrospect Rafal. I was there in August, and I guess they must've had the Dash 7 put away out of view that day for some reason.

The House on the road over by the 727s sure looks like a residence doesn't it? Imagine living there for 10 years of relative quiet, and one night a 727 taxiis over to your backyard a 1am on its final movement... haha.. shock:
