    Airliner Loses Engine, Lands OK

PEORIA, Ill. - Oct. 26, 2006 (UPI) -- A Sun Country Airlines flight was forced to land at Peoria, Ill., after the plane lost its right engine, officials said.

The plane, Flight 382, en route from Fort Myers, Fla., to Minneapolis, Minn., with about 110 passengers, touched down without incident, the Peoria Journal Star said.

Reminds me of those maintenance funnies...

    Captain writes: lost right engine...
Maintenance reply: Right engine found under wing..

Trying to find more detailed info. Anybody get the regi? Doubt it's a Transavia lease. Too early in the year for them.

Did the engine shut down or did it actually fall off?
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

I highly doubt it fell off because if it did goodness would it be all over the news and trust me there would be pix by now but the media likes to puf it up a bit for the "oh my gosh" factor" they probably shut it down for somthing simple like Low Oil Press. or somthing like that.

Don't the pilots say the term "We lost an engine" meaning power shut down?

I never thought of the engine actually falling off the plane, just simply engine was shut down. Or maybe I am just to technical for the airlines haha.

What happens if they do physically lose an engine just say "We physically lost an engine, like literally its gone from wing" ?

welll losing an engine is how you refer to loss of powert yes but the media does not gewnerally understand that. And it happens a few times planes have litteraly lost an engine I.E. a NW 722 from MIA to MSP had blue ice break off from the forward lav panel and tore the number three clean from the plane forcing an emergency landing at TPA in like 1990 or the Kalitta 741 last year that dropped one over the Great Lakes someplace

Planes are made to be able to fly with only one engine fired up...it's called right rudder. it's obviously not common though....and if he LOST the engine it would throw off the w&b and that would certainly, suck.
Why does Boeing start with a "B"? Because it's Better than Airbus.
