Dear Friend of the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport:
Some 44 years ago this October, two great nations, the United States and the Soviet Union, stood on the edge of nuclear war. It was the height of what historians call the “Cold War” when the flash point was Cuba. Two brave leaders who refused to push the world into the abyss of atomic holocaust found a way to disengage and thereby prevented a final, unimaginable chapter in the history of civilization.
On Tuesday, October 24th, at 11:00 a.m., at the American Airpower Museum, 1230 New Highway, Farmingdale, you are invited to attend a program with Congressman Steve Israel that marks the anniversary of those dangerous days of the Cold War, and one that, ironically, helped create a lasting, if uneasy peace between the United States and the Soviet Union. Our program seeks to be a reminder that all nations must constantly seek to prevent war and that nuclear conflict would end our world, as we know it.
Your attendance would help contribute to a collective reminder that all of humanity, on both sides of a now irrelevant political divide, was at enormous risk. Today, following the attacks of 9/11, these lessons are more important than ever. We cannot allow ourselves to be held captive by fear and that we must stand together in our humanity to confront threats to democracy, no matter what form they may assume in this new, and equally dangerous century.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Cordially,
Jeff Clyman
President / AAM at Republic
