An Afternoon at the Mounds (and Costco)

I went out to the mounds Thursday afternoon via the J/Z train to Jamaica Center/Parsons and transferred to the Q111/Q113 bus. It wasn't that bad, and I would recommend it.

Saw the mixture of RAM, Uzbekistan, Egypt, AF, KLM, CSA, Swiss, Lufthansa, Turkish, Olympic, BA, Virgin, Malev, PIA, and Alitalia, but here are some highlights:

Glad to see a tri-jet still flying:

First time I saw the LTU 330:

    MaxJet sure does look good:

A nice German guy showed up at the mounds shortly after I did. He was staying with a friend in the area and got directions from NYC Aviation. I told him about the forums and spotting expeditions, but he said he could only spot on weekdays during his visit. After seeing a jetBlue E-190 land, ATC switched over to the 31s, so he offered to give me a lift over there.

We first stopped at Burger King and saw Saudi 747F, but the sun did not want to come out so I was left with this:

We decided to scratch Burger King and went over to Costco instead and were greeted with Alitalia MD-11F:

    Royal Jordanian A310F:

    Kuwait A340:

    And finally, Air France A340!

Then a Nassau county police car came by and checked us out and looked over our IDs. All was well until two more Nassau police cars suddenly appeared out of nowhere. The cop went over to talk to them, but they just waved us off. The cop came back, handed back our IDs, and told us how nowadays people get worried when they see people taking pictures of airplanes, etc., and told us to have a nice. He was very nice and polite through the whole thing.

A major cloud formed overhead after he left, giving nothing but crap shots of a Sun Country 737 and Allegiant MD-80. The last I checked, Allegiant doesn't have scheduled service into JFK. Was the flight a charter? It came in at 5:20.

I hope you all enjoyed this--I know I certainly did.

I guess that soccer field is done, are the mounds just as accessible as before?

Have the mounds been closed? On Thursday they were doing seeding and I had to stand in an off-area (not the actual mounds). One of the workers said there were spotters there last weekend.
