Never look past your first round opponent. They just might beat your a$$.
You can borrow my Ulf Dahlen jersey if you like lol.
The sooner I see Crosby crying his way out of the playoffs the better!
Also, screw the Western conference, 10:30 start time the night before 3 exams...
GO WINGS!
That's two!
I'm so embarrassed to even be a part of a sport where good hits get punished solely because a big name pansy gets his head knocked around a few times...
2 games for a clean hit that the ref right there didn't call?? I get pissed when my partner ON THE ICE calls something that I had a better view on much less some moron in an office in Toronto...
Nope, not sour at all here, but I do think the Wings are cooked now.
FIRE BETTMANN!
That is all, Rant over.
It's time for me to just start cheering against the Pens and Hawks, and pray that SOMEONE has their way with Corey Cheapshot Perry before this series is over.
Mark, the Abdelkadur hit was dirty as sin. He left his feet with his elbows up. That was clear as day bro. The Gryba hit on Lars Eller, while violent as I've ever seen with a gigantic pool of blood left behind looked to me as clean. Kid just got caught with his head down and paid for it. But yeah, the hit in Detroit was very questionable. That was an o-zone penalty too. Stupid.
I'm gonna call shens on Abby's hit for 3 reasons (and this is coming from a ref):
1. Stopped skating a considerable distance away (#1 criteria for charging)
2. Did not leave his feet until after the initial contact (#2 criteria)-This is one of the things people don't realize about Kronwall's hits either, when you collide that fast, sometimes the energy is directed up providing the illusion that one was to jump prior to impact. We're taught to "explode" upwards into the hit to knock the opponent off the puck for a better chance of knocking the stick off the biscut, that doesn't mean jumping though.
3. Did not clearly target the head, as glancing shoulder contact was the initial and intended point of contact.
4. Player had his head down and wasn't paying full attention, while the onus is generally on the player making the hit, he cannot be punished for the fact that the player he is hitting is not watching where he is on the ice. There's no rule against blindsiding an opponent UNLESS they're hit directly or diagonally from behind, which was not the case here.
5. The "dirty" elbow extension was a factor of the collision rather than how he went in to the hit. Trust me, if his goal was to separate Lydman from his helmet/consciousness it would have been VERY easy to adjust his direction and extend the elbow.
There's a reason the guy wearing orange black and white 5 feet away didn't call it. If the Duck's player got right up, it isn't called at all or even looked at, much less a 5+Game and 2 game suspension in the playoffs. Yep, we're talking about playoffs. One of the replays they showed from a different angle showed things the way Steve Kozari did, and I completely agree and back his initial no call 100%.
With all the cheap crap they ignore and let go, it's an absolute travesty to the game of hockey that good hard plays get called like this. It sends the wrong message to say the least.
For the record, I'd be saying the same thing even if it was a Detroit guy who got lined up like that.
That Eller hit was one of the scariest I've ever seen as far as the aftermath goes. The ice looked like an old Avs Wings game from the 90s after that one...
As our FSDetroit color guy says (and all my coaches): That's why you keep your head up folks.
As for another topic, am I the only one wishing Crosby takes puck right between the gap between his visor and jaw cage that bounces around in there a few times? It makes him look like an even bigger crybaby than normal, and frankly, as someone who has taken a slapshot to the jaw, I was appalled by the distance the stick traveled when he threw it after he got drilled a few months back.
Lol John you silly silly man. It's so unfortunate you picked the wrong team.
It's time I eat my yearly plate of crow! Congrats to the Rangers for sure and more so to Lundqvist who deserves every award he gets. Awesome goalie and classy always. I do hope to see him win a cup in his career. Good luck guys.
Could be worse...I could be a Leafs fan.
No kidding. I thought I had it bad but that was inhumane.
Shock and awe in TO....

From the CBC...
Stay classy Toronto!Quote:
The police were out on downtown Toronto streets to ensure there weren't any problems.
Mounted police and officers on foot and on bicycles helped disperse remaining crowds.
Officers dealt with a few rowdy fans who threw beer bottles after the loss.
Some pulled the tails and slapped the sides of the horses that officers were riding on.
Last time I was in Toronto I experienced the loss of the Canadian World Junior team while eating at Gretzky's and I felt like the whole town needed to be on suicide watch, I can only imagine the mood after that blown game...
I hope Boston and the Rangers both get the flu and spend the next 7 games projectile vomiting on each other until one team quits.
Bitter? ME?!?!
Not at all.
I just hope the Wings can keep playing like they did today and show those Chi Town losers who is in charge (and squash the Bettmann dreams for a Pens-Hawks final).
Ok, the fix is officially in as far as the Wings-Chicago series goes. Sloppy play by the Wings put them in a bad spot for sure, but THAT being called a penalty shot... Really?? That's a good defensive play in any other game (unless the pens are involved...).
Lol not watching! Honestly, I hope at this point it's someone from the west that wins it. I hate the Bruins and the Pens I hate even more. We shall see.
Epic Game 7 last night. Tonights should be just as good!
...oh....and bye-bye to Torts. Gonna miss his post game presser.
Mark is going to hang himself at this point I'm sure lol. FEEL MY PAIN!!!
Nope, I knew it was coming... as soon as ChiTown lost that game winner with a minute and change to go the league and the misguided hockey gods would not have it any other way. Like Babs said after the game on Monday, "If we told you a week ago that we'd be facing Chicago in a game 7 the whole city would be amazed and going crazy", no one gave the Wings a chance, and this wasn't their year. For all intents and purposes like half of the roster is AHLers and guys with little to no NHL experience, this was a great experience, 14 tough playoff games and all the adversity you could ask for.
They'll be back next year bigger and better (and hopefully with less injury trouble)... or at least they better with how much money I've got to shell out to see the Winter Classic at my own school's stadium...
The Wings performed about as I expected, and Chicago is a good team (even if they are filled with a bunch of cheapshot pansy jerkoffs who need to man up and play some real hockey).
I was far more disappointed with the outcome of U of M hockey's failed bid to make it to the NCAA tourney than this year's Red Wings debacle, talk about an underperforming club...
I think I'm in more shock about the Red Wings than the Rangers. Can't I have at least one of my teams make it past the first round??
Yes great game last night that was almost ruined by one of the worst calls in sports history!! That sound you heard when the Blackhaweks won in OT was the HUGE sigh of relief from the refs and the league!!
Torts act was played out!! I believe the players just had enough of his ranting and raving!! And yes he won a Stanley Cup but that doesnt mean he reinvented hockey!! And when Henrik was asked if he was resigning
when his current contract expires and he gave a halfhearted "we'll see" the writing was on the wall.
I hope the Pens and Bruins beat the crap put of each other so bad they give the Cup to the west winner by default!! That said I will enjoy watching the games as i love the Cup playoffs no matter who is playing!!
Funny how NBC was all over the goal that was waived off because the play was stopped, even pulling pro-Hawks Twitter reactions, but had nothing to say about Andrew Shaw taking out Filppula and not even getting a penalty for it.

This is Kerry Fraser's take on that waved-off goal:

I've made similar coincident calls before during my reffing career, generally the decision to stop play is more out of concern for the scrum escalating to a fight (which the NHL is very much against, and we are doing our best to keep out of youth/junior/college hockey).
With a penalty on each team ready to be called, it's a decision of either (Depending on level and situation): 1. Waiting for either team to gain possession and control of the puck to stop play or 2. Blowing the play dead immediately. Regardless (and under any circumstance), the play is to be blown dead before any shot can be taken, which, in my opinion, is the correct call (regardless of what team it "screwed over"). Walkom made the right call plain and simple, Fraiser may disagree, but even us refs don't see eye to eye on every call. Something to consider would be that Walkom didn't want this scrum to escalate to the point where another player got injured similar to Filppula, something that was sure to be a bit of concern in the back of everyone's minds.
As for a collective sigh of relief by the refs/league, of course it was, Chicago is a bigger media market and the Kane/Toewes pair is second only to the Pens in terms of league publicity.
I just want the Kings to take it at this point, hopefully inflicting the physical punishment that Chicago so rightly deserves.
Caps in 7!
Calling your shot for next year Kenny?
I hate you lol.
Hey at least there's a shot the Caps win a series next year, and I'm not joking. My brother is a Lions fan who honestly thinks they're going to make it to the SuperBowl every year, so a few Caps wins isn't exactly delusional on my scale lol
Well that's comforting lol. If I start calling for the Caps in the Super Bowl, please slap the **** out of me.
Duly noted, and wilco lol
Did I mention how much I HATE Cindy Crysby?? My gosh, going after a goalie then being dumb enough to mouth off to one of the biggest players the NHL has ever seen... If Chara had lost his cool and did what he perhaps should have, Crosby's career would have surly ended tonight.
Over/Under on how many boxes of tissues ****ney Crysby goes through tonight is set at 6.
