The Me-262 is an incredible visitor and such a rare photo op.
Should be quite a show. And there may very well be a Moose sighting around FRG that weekend...
It shall be a spotterpalooza!
I'm guessing the Me is replica/reproduction, right? Any info on her?
The save 25% buying online link doesn't seem to work(at least for me).
Yes, it is a reproduction, built by The Me262 Project out of Everett, WA. They haven't updated their website in a while (the "Latest Update" link shows 2009 news) but you can learn more here: http://www.stormbirds.com/project/index.html
Here are 2 links with info about the Collings Foundation Me-262:
http://www.collingsfoundation.org/ma_me262.htm
http://www.stormbirds.com/project/general/updates.htm
The Collings Foundation is currently doing flight training with their Me-262
and if all goes well hopefully they'll be able to bring her to the AAM in Sept. !!
Fingers crossed !!
Edit: I see Moose already posted the info while I was looking for the links !! Ha !!
i really, really, really want to drive down there just to see that Me!!
Thanks Moose andChris. Enjoyed the links(and photos). Need to charge up my batteries.
Sorry to be the bearer of potential bad nes but word around the AAM today was that the Collings Foundation Me-262 might not make it in due to mechanical issues. More to follow.
Ironic that the one airplane in their collection that isn't really 70 years old is the one with mechanical problems. I'm hearing it is a fuel pump issue, and it isn't looking good for the Me making it to FRG...
Would attending the show on Friday be the best bet to avoid crowds ?
I don't know that there will be much happening on Friday. The bombers may be in town, I don't know their schedule yet, but the museum is planning their activities (volunteer-wise) for Saturday through Monday. Stuff may be on the ground, but you may not see much flying on Friday.
Thanks, I figured that on Friday they would be just starting to set up for the weekend. Will the museum post a schedule of each days activities ?
The aircraft from the Collings Foundation ae tentatively due to arrive at the AAM at 1:00PM on Friday August 31st, 2012.
AAM has confirmed on their FB page that the Me262 is down for maintenance, and will not be at the museum this weekend.:frown:
I don't know...my initial reaction the other day was to skip the trip, but I'm reconsidering. I may still come up.
Tickets are on sale now!: https://tix.extremetix.com/Online/?s...f-bf81ae382372
They are also apparently offering parking in their lot (as opposed to parking on the side of the road) for $5 per day.
$20 if you buy at the gate ? Did ticket prices go up this year ???
Probably - that's to encourage purchasing in advance.
From AAM's Facebook page........... "Its arrival day at AAM. Expect the Collings Foundation aircraft to arrive late today."
Then they state the Skyraider is due in between 12:00 & 1:00PM
Just saw a P-51 head South down the Hudson and over towards the Verrazano. AAM related?
Probably, the Collins people were bringing a P-51 with them.
I was out there from 11:00Am till bout 1:30PM and nothing aad come in yet.
The AAM's FB page says "They have arrived!" with a photo of the B-24 being marshaled in by one of the museum Ramp Rats.

Lots of good flying today. I hung out in the parking lot close to the fence by D&B for about 3 hours or so. I hadnt planned on staying that long but everytime I was getting ready to drive off
I would see one of the warbirds readying to crank up. Pretty cool finale (for me) when the Skyraider went up for two Flybys followed by a Flight of 3 (B-25, Thunderbolt and the Curtiss) 2X
Flyby!! Great job by the AAM.
Anybody know the departure schedule
I was there until 5:30 PM and the Skyraider did not come back.
Nice photos guys. Went to LGA, Soundview in Bronx, to walk her dogs and do some planespotting. Looks like I missed some awesome photos. Would have loved to see the sky raider. Look fwd to seeing more photos from this.
