This is always a great show with a surprise fly by or two, or four (Raptors) The lighting is tough but the statics are often spectacular.
Not counting on Raptors this year since they are all still grounded... but I will be there.
I wasn't suggestingthat Raptors would be there this year, I just meant it as an example as there are always surprises, the first time four Raptors showed up was awesome, just like the E-2 flybys and the B-52 and B-2.
Tough light indeed, TERRIFIC airshow... only time I have seen Blues and Thunderbirds together at one show performing!!
Surprises and also scheduled surprises :-)

Where do they park the statics for this show?
Yup me too. Coming up from 2 days in DC and this time I will stay over the night of the show also. Last year I bussed in on Tuesday and bussed out at 430 after
the show and between that, traffic, then LIRR I still didnt get home till almost 9. Not this time. And after the show there was live music on the Boardwalk amongst
other things to enjoy.
We lost the MV-22 flybys (for now at least they are trying to get another unit to step in) instead the Marine flybys will consist of CH-46E's and MH-60S'. Additional C-130J flybys have also been added.
Am I reading it right that this thing is on a Wednesday???
Why on earth is an airshow scheduled for the middle of a work week? I got all excited thinking I was going to go but there's no way I can pull that off
Yes, it's always been on a Wednesday. AC doesn't have any problem attracting people on the weekends, it's a way to bring them in during the week.
And guess what, it is one of the best airshows and attracts top talent and acts... one year both TB and BA both in one day... but it is not the best venue for photography light-wise and the protruding pier at show center is a real killer!
Oh man when I went there last year the day before and saw that pier I was WTF!!!!!!!!?????:mad:
But the day of the show I positioned myself south of the pier about a half mile or so and it was perfect. And so was the bar selling Vodka Lemonades at a reasonable price !!!:smile:

With that lineup missing the MV-22 aint so bad.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it.....I'll be away on business.
Looks like there isn't any chance of getting an F-35 this year :(

Jimmy Thackery looks to be a keeper Tuesday night. This man can PLAY!!!! Check iTunes.
Jason Flood, an aerobatic performer who performed at Atlantic City last year is in critical condition after an accident trying to pick up a tow banner.
I hope he gets better soon!

We are going to have some racing at this years show!
"This year the Skytypers will do something special at the A.C. show — they will race the five-time world champion Miss Geico Racing Team powerboat — a catamaran-hulled speedboat equipped with helicopter engines that can travel at speeds of up to 200 miles-per–hour."

All I'm going to say is that it hasn't been a part of the 8 previous Atlantic City Thunder over the Boardwalk Airshows!

There is also some concern with aircraft arriving and practicing but the weather was similar last year and it turned out to be a great show!Quote:
No, but I have to be VERY careful where I park it.

thanks for the update. I'll be heading down early tomorrow. Free Room, Free Food. As long as I don't gamble too much it should be a good couple of days..
Yeah I'm looking forward to it also, I'll probably be on the beach in front of the Tropicana.
This revised schedule was just posted:
http://www.atlanticcitynj.com/!userf...ule-final2.pdf
Please let's not mention the weather!
I may make it for the show on Wednesday thanks to grubbing a time-share hotel room off of my brother and s-i-l. I'll be bringing the D90 and 70-300mm VR lens. Given the issues with the pier, etc., any advice where to set up camp on the boardwalk?
Personally I would not camp out on the boardwalk, with all the people and kids walking and running around ect; I would not recommend it. Also 300mm probably wouldn't cut it from there since the aerobatic box is further out than jones beach. If I were you I would camp out in front of the Tropicana or somewhere close since that is show center (or close to it) and go on the beach, since the beach is small half way should be plenty, they even have beach chairs you can rent just in case you want to sit between acts.
Florida Avenue is show center
Hope to see some of you guys :) Mr Holzinger I know i will see you for sure :) Im Packing and going to AC, NJ tomorrow :)
Fighting_falcon_51 and fk6065 thank you so much for the information. If they are as far out as the Saturday Super Hornet demo was at Jones Beach this past year, my camera will be of little use. Strangely enough, that may allow me to put the camera down for once and actually enjoy watching the air show using both eyes. :wink:Quote:
Florida Avenue is show center
Great show today in A.C!
If you have yet to see the Heavy Metal Jet Team persform, do it! They were outstanding!
Weather was great!
We had a small, univited air craft invade the air space during the show.
The Canadian Parachute team was a little off, a few blocks in land, on their landing.
Great show, pictures tomorrow.
What a great day weather wise and show wise. Such a diversity of aircraft.
And who was the idiot who broke the TFR? Wow what a moron. I was grabbing a shot of the EMS BK117 then looked up to see
this slow moving fixed wing RIGHT ABOVE THEM!! That could have been a disaster. Anyone listening in know if the copter pilot was warned
they were there and anyone get an ID of the culprit?
And YES the Heavy Metal Jet Team was FANTASTIC!! Quite impressive especially the low level flying by the soloists. I swear it looked at times they were
going to hit a boat they were so low!
Great two days in AC!!
The 172 that violated the TFR was N904DR, I didn't have the airboss on at the time but from what I heard the MedEVAC chopper was asked to get his tail number along with some of the state and government boats.
Great time with lots of aviation friends, as always was a pleasure and honor to hang out with all this guys. Can't wait for the next air show which will be Pax River for me in two weeks and then Oceana baby !
Pictures are not on the top level, lighting conditions at Atlantic City are terrible.... I hate this air show :) they always have some good stuff i the air but sun position makes this air show very difficult. nest year Im going on the boat or Im not going to Atlantic City at all.... I probably will go no matter what :))
Enjoy

Don't take me wrong guys, I love Thunder Over The Boardwalk, I just hate the lighting condition, This air show has always something to offer, something special, like Osprev this year, Smoke Squadron last Year or three F-22 Fly by with max climbe in 2009. And believe me Eric I had a chance to see this airshow for the last hmm 5 years.... I was already shooting from beach, left, right, center and for the last 2 years Im shooting from the Pier and thats the best location except Boat on the other side of the Box....
I know its not easy to shoot from the boat, I have some experience with boats from the OC Air Shows but for the Atlantic City Boat is the only location with good light....
And for the record yes I will be attending 2012 Thunder Over the Boardwalk :)
