Just to clarify, Mario is talking about June 19th and 20th, not this coming weekend.
For those who cannot make it, NYCA will have full media coverage!
I plan on going. Does anyone have a link where I can buy tickets?
So I gather the seating is for Liberty State Park?Quote:

Tickets run the gamut, from $35 to over 1295 per person.
Nice thing is though that kids under 6 are free :D
enjoy it while it lasts my friend....Quote:

I remember reading somewhere on the Red Bull site that there wouldn't be good views of the race from Manhattan (not without binoculars anyway). Judging from this map it looks like the best sightlines are on the Jersey side:
https://redbullairrace.showare.ch/Gener ... NEWSID=211
FYI- I'm still hoping to hear some info soon on a possible spectator boat to view the race from also. :borat:
When I hear any news I'll post the info here also !!
Found some info on boat viewing:
http://www.nywaterway.com/RedBullAirRace.aspx
Judging from the map, I'm guessing the coast guard will be corralling boats just southeast of Ellis Island. Might get good shots of planes coming off the finish line, but maybe not great views of the race itself.
Also, found on this "Harbor Events" page (http://www.iboatnyharbor.com/Harbor%20Events.htm):
It seems as if training days are usually held the Thursday and Friday before the race, so it the park isn't closed up it might be a good opportunity for crowd-free viewing.Quote:
June 17: Red Bull Air Race - Training Day 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
I think FoxSports is broadcasting this live?
Does anyone know what time the race starts and ends?
I think I'm going to take the LIRR to Penn, jump on the PATH on 33rd & 6th & get off at Liberty State Park.
If I go on Sat, I can get GA tickets for $30.
Every other way either seems to require being set up by 8am, or spending a ton of money. Both are not an option for me, especially with Quonset coming up 2 weeks after.
The following info was on the Red Bull Air Race website:Quote:

I'm going to be on Governors Island Sat aft at the BrewFest. Maybe they'll do some FlyOvers!! 8)
Thanks Chris!
Just so you know, PATH doesn't run to Liberty State Park. You need to change to the Hudson-Bergen light rail at Pavonia-Newport to get there, and then walk to the park from the station. (I don't know if there's going to be any sort of shuttle bus service for this, but the old LSP shuttle bus was a victim of NJT's recent cuts and doesn't run anymore).Quote:

Certainly the tickets for the ferry are cheaper then ones for General Admission.
Does anyone know the price of admission for Liberty State Park? It doesn't say on their website.
I decided to get reserved seats at Liberty State Park. The GA area was a lot more affordable but you have to get there before the gates open to get a decent spot and you have to stand the whole race. As some of you know if you have little ones under 5 its free and they knock of a couple of bucks for kids 5-14.

Subject: Media Advisory - Aerobatic Flyover
On Tuesday, June 15, 2010 in connection with an air race occurring later this week there will be approximately 30 random flights between 9am-6pm of single engine prop planes (Edge 540 and MXS aircraft) doing aerobatic maneuvers lasting approximately 10 minutes in duration.
These flights will depart Linden Airfield and head south to Raritan Bay (body of water off of Staten Island’s South and Midland Beach Areas, and south of the Verrazano Bridge). Flights to and from Linden will follow Arthur Kill (the channel between Staten Island and Woodbridge, NJ) at altitudes between 1,000' and 1,500'.
On Wednesday, June 16, 2010 approximately 30 random flights between 10am-6pm of single engine prop planes (Edge 540 and MXS aircraft) will be doing aerobatic maneuvers approximately five (5) minutes in duration.
These flights will depart Linden Airfield and proceed towards the Verrazano Bridge following the Staten Island Expressway at altitudes between 1,000’ and 1,200’. Planes will then proceed up the Hudson River and hold south of the Statue of Liberty between 500’ and 1,000’. From this holding position, the planes will have about five (5) minutes in the race box (located just north of Ellis Island--over the water adjacent to Liberty State Park). The planes will return via the same route to Linden Airfield.
There will be 3-5 aircraft flying up and down the Hudson River for a photo session later that afternoon on Wednesday at approximately 6pm. Please note that these planes will be emitting smoke, which is planned and normal for aerobatic planes—the smoke does not indicate any problem with the aircraft. They will be escorted by a helicopter that will be filming the flight.

Weather for Saturday - Mostly Sunny/85!!!
Sunday - Mostly Sunny/85!!!
i was going to get tickets to this, as well as try to bug a friend of mine for pit passes, but decided that Brew Fest was a much more worthwhile venture on my part... it starts at 1530, on governor's island and includes all the free beer i can handle. :borat: :borat:
my gf agreed with my choice of venue too. how sweet is that?!
I didn't meet Mike but was given a tour today of the garage/pits area by his mechanic Dennis. Very nice guy and I learned alot today from him about the operation and these aircraft.Quote:

I just can't see myself paying good money to bring my kids at this age. Not fair to us to bring them and have to chase the 1 and 3 yr old and not be able to pay attention skyward. And we were going to spring for the mid range seats too in Race Club but not worth it if paying too much mind to the kidlings.
My gut was to see it here b/c in NY, who knows if the NIMBYs would ever allow them back.
Looking forward to see the races though. Anyone have an idea what channels are televising locally?
Ah, I understand. Also if you read the fine print, kids are required to sit on the parent's lap. I think thats kind of hard with a 1 & 3 year old.
Also the following networks will broadcast the race:

What a shame. I really like this "rookie". I hope for his safe return back to full competition status.Quote:
Australia’s race pilot, Matt Hall will not compete in New York
Posted by Flightline UK on June 16, 2010
NEW YORK – Following the Red Bull Air Race investigation into Australian pilot Matt Hall’s aviation mishap in Windsor last week, the Race Committee have imposed sanctions resulting in Hall not being permitted to compete in New York.
As part of the standard aviation operating procedures, the Red Bull Air Race’s Technical Director, the Race Director and the Sporting Medical Director were required to investigate the June 5 incident in which Hall’s race plane splashed off the surface of the Detroit River. This incident followed a sequence of earlier events which were also taken into consideration including a wing stall in Perth and disqualification in Rio for dangerous flying.
Hall was not hurt in the incident in Windsor; however, his MXS-R race plane sustained minor damage to an aileron and landing gear wheel cover, when its wing and landing gear skimmed off the surface of the Detroit River during a Qualifying session run. Hall was disqualified from the Qualifying session.
Following the investigation, a recommendation was made to the Race Committee including sanctions as well as a formal proposal to ensure Hall’s safe return to the Championship.
The Race Committee has approved the recommendations including sanctions preventing him from competing in Championship round in New York. Hall will, however, be permitted to participate in a step down training program in New York as part of the process to return him to full competition status.
The former Royal Australian Air Force fighter pilot, who was the most successful rookie in Red Bull Air Race history last year with third place overall, did not take part in the June 6 race in Windsor. Hall, 38, is currently in fifth place in the world championship with 22 points from four races.

Totally understand. Been there. But it is Fathers Day weekend and a really nice gift to you would be to have the
Missus WATCH the kinder and YOU go to the races.  8)
Me, On Saturday I'll be on Governors Island with some buddys figuring out how many 4 ounce glasses I can consume
in 5 hours.
Then Sunday flying down to Boca to visit my oldest son. One of the reasons I have a 10:45AM flight as opposed to a
early bird flight is, well, see the above sentence relating to Saturday!!
Time to get excited!

This would be way cooler if Columbus Circle was actually part of the course.
There is also a Red Bull Race Simulator at 51st and Broadway staffed by some Red Bull models if you want to go check it out.
There are a bunch of these by Penn Station on 7Ave and across from Macys on 6th Ave. Lots of media blitz also for thisQuote:

I can't wait for Sunday. I saw the AD at Columbus Circle yesterday as well. I purchased my tickets for the South Standing Area. Hope to meet some of you guys at the race!
I don't think there will be any media flying their own helicopter to cover the race. Red Bull Air Race has their own chase helicopter, a MBB Bo 105 (HB-ZJF) piloted by Jürg Fleischmann.Quote:

I was on Ellis Island for the morning and early afternoon, in hopes that the winds would cease. I felt like I was back in Brookhaven trying to photograph that damned balloon festival.... "Oh, look! The (balloons/pylons) are inflating! They're going to....oh, wait, they're being deflated again. What's that? Nothing is going to fly today? $&!@"Quote:
