NYCAviation on the Today Show - December 16th (Date Change!)

They changed the date until next week, the 14th!

Though subject to change and I don't yet have the specific air time just yet, but NYCAviation and several of our members will be appearing on the Today Show on Monday, December 14th, in what just might be our biggest exposure yet.

I can't share much and must keep details hush-hush, but I just wanted to give you folks a heads up that we highly recommend you watch. The show is on NBC from 7am-11am.

Of course, we will have full coverage of it here on the site as well once it airs. :)

About the wife and trying to explain why we love planes... my wife was the same... she kept asking me: what kind of fun is this... an I took here to one of the big Air Shows... unfortunately now she is traveling with me whenever Im going to see Air Show....

Let me know (my username @ gmail) if you need a copy. I work in TV and we record a pretty-good-quality aircheck copy of all the morning shows each day. I can easily grab that and compress it for YouTube/Vimeo, or bump it to DVD, or whatever you'd like.

As announced on TV with a brief clip, our portion will now air this Wednesday. I'm sorry for the changes...I wish I had control over it.

oh I tried waking up at 7am but after a few hours of tiger woods mistresses and such, I felt back to sleep

Even though they announced on the air that it would be on today, it seems as though they pushed it back again because two of the anchors had the day off. I'm sorry for all the delays even though it's out of our hands and we only relay was is given to us.

HOWEVER, two NYCA members were on the show! How? they had a clip of Sully on, and both emshighway and LGA777 were standing right next to him on the ramp at LGA. What are the odds?! Good stuff guys!

Too bad, but glad to get something positive out of it!

Word on the street is that it will air tomorrow (Thursday) around 8:15... Any truth to this?

That is correct. I was told today that it will air at about 8:19am Thursday. We shall see.

Wow, that sucked...and they didn't even get the names on the right people.

I seemed like they just laughed at us. He might paint a wall if it was there? :(

Phil, I applaud the effort, Sorry they did that to you and your great site.

Before they learned what it actually was, they were asked what they were expecting, hence the paint remark. Then they see us, talk to us, and follow up later.

Al wasn't very cheerful or friendly, but Ann loved talking to us about photography, and actually was staying to talk to us about travel and politics when it was all over....the crew had to keep telling her "Come on, let's go Ann!".

Regardless of Al's attitude, it can still bring a lot interested people into aviation that might not otherwise have known.

They say any publicity is good publicity, right? I agree it was a little harsh, but let's be honest, to most people going out to an airport and spending hours "looking through binoculars" and taking pictures of airplanes flying (something most people equate to hassle and headache) is not on the top of their list of things to do...
It's not like they completely knocked the hobby, they just found it very odd (which admittedly it probably is) and which is what the segment was on. If anything you'll draw people that have the "bug" but didn't know that there were groups that actually went out to airports to spot and that other people were into this. Too bad they didn't the names right though...

Well thanks to some dumb luck and great timing on my part I changed to channel 4 just as it was starting, GREAT JOB GUYS. Phil I was never a big Al Roker fan before this but boy what a jerk, very unimpressed with Al. Because it happend so fast Phil can you confirm it was you, Mel, Eric, and Matt M? Don't want to leave anyone out? Nice speaking job Phil.

The video is up. I'm still clueless as to how they botched our names. Aside from Al being "complainy", I think it wasn't too bad. we're already getting a lot of Tweets and messages from people asking what Al's problem was and how fun it seems, so it's been bring out enthusiasts! Sorry if anyone is embarrassed.

NYCAviation on the Today Show

We did two days of filming, and Scotty was out to one of them, but was not in the group photo they showed...but threw in his name anyway. Brian Stevenson was also in the crowd. Mel was the only name they got right I think.

At least they were clever enough to get MY name right. :?

I'm sure the piece got some people who are interested in spotting to the site and the bottom line is that's all that really matters.

I didn't get a chance to see it but heard from one friend who saw it. So they called Eric Scotty huh? lol.

They do say any publicity is good publicity. I watched morning TV for the first time in years today and saw that Spitzer's escort is now a writer for the post. I saw her on news 11 titled "relationship expert". Based on this, Phil you should have your own talk show on aviation in about 6 months :)
