The annual Atlantic City Airshow "Thunder Over The Boardwalk" is scheduled for next Wednesday, August 19, 2009 (That's right - Wednesday - it's always been a mid-week show). The show opens at 10:30am, and end with the featured performers, the USAF Thunderbirds, beginning their demo at around 3pm. Just like Jones Beach, this show is held over the Atlantic, off the beach at AC. Checking the show schedule, it looks as if they have a large and varied list of performers - everything from F-16, A-10 and F/A-18F demos, a 4-ship Raptor fly-by, air-sea rescue demos, various warbirds, and examples of all the NJ based Air Force assets (KC-135, KC-10, C-17 and F-16).
Going down Tuesday morning, staying at the Borgata . You going Moose?

Re: Atlantic City Airshow - Wednesday, 8/19/09
If anyone goes, plan on getting there no later than 9 am. Show center is near Florida Avenue, and if you're going to park in the casinos, you'd want to park at either Trump Plaza, Caesars, or the Trop. However, don't say I didn't warn you - they may charge an OUTRAGEOUS parking fee because of the airshow.

Re: Atlantic City Airshow - Wednesday, 8/19/09
ALSO, and don't say I didn't warn you guys about it, but because of The Pier at Caesars, the aerobatic box is much further out over the ocean than other shows (even Jones Beach). You're going to need at least 400mm and some more help from that to get good shots.
I'll be down there Tuesday and Wednesday. Don't know where I'm going to shoot from... I'd like it to be the Pier but highly doubt it'll happen, so the beach might be the place for me.

IMPORTANT TRAFFIC INFO FOR A.C. AIR SHOW
Mark Carros ( [email protected] ) - 8/17/09 12:49 pm
Last Updated - 8/17/09 05:55 pm
(Atlantic City) -- The Atlantic City Police Department has several suggestions on how best to cope with traffic if you are planning to attend the air show on Wednesday.
Here is the news release sent to NBC 40 from the Police Department:
Traffic Advisory for “Thunder over the Boardwalk” 2009 Airshow
The 2009 Atlantic City Airshow “Thunder over the Boardwalk” attendance is expected to exceed last year’s record attendance
of an estimated 600,000 spectators. Listed below you will find information regarding traveling and parking in Atlantic City.
Atlantic City is easily accessible via the Atlantic City Expressway, Route 30 and Route 40/322.
Take Exit 1 off the Atlantic City Expressway for parking at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.
Those arriving by the N.J. Transit rail system can be assured that additional train service is available the day of the show.
The rail system can be accessed from nearby Hammonton, Egg Harbor City and Absecon, with trains arriving at the
Atlantic City Convention Center. For more information, visit www.njtransit.com.
Early arrivers may want to try the South Jersey Transportation Authority lots on Fairmont Avenue and Atlantic Avenue, and the New York Avenue garage (located between Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Avenue) in Atlantic City.
Remote parking at Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa is easily accessible from Exit 1 from the Atlantic City Expressway. Visitors should look for directional signs in the surface lot. If you park in the garage, walk through the casino to the North Entrance to take the shuttle. Parking will be $5, which includes the cost of the shuttle to the Boardwalk. The last shuttle from Borgata is at 2 p.m.
The City of Atlantic City has provided a handicap viewing area which will be available at the pavilion at Montpelier Avenue and the Boardwalk during the Airshow. There is also a handicap accessible ramp on Montpelier Avenue. However, space is limited (first come, first served) and will be restricted for those in wheelchairs that cannot access the beach.
On Wednesday, August 19 only, New Jersey Transit will operate additional service on the Atlantic City Rail Line to/from the Atlantic City Airshow. One additional train will operate in each direction. Due to expected high ridership, customers are advised to allow extra travel time, purchase tickets in advance to avoid lines, and to travel light.
To view the Atlantic City Line timetable or information on all other train service, visit www.njtransit.com.
I hope Moose got some good shots, I didn't make it to bed til 5:30 this morning and was way too hungover to make it to the beach today

Re: Atlantic City Airshow - Wednesday, 8/19/09
Just got home - 16 hours with Fred and his sons. Gotta jump in the shower, then I'll look at pictures. Was an outstanding show. Light wasn't great, but wasn't terrible, hot, mostly sunny. An incredible variety of performers - there was rarely more than a few minutes of inactivity between performances from 10:30am until the T-Birds finished at almost 4pm. I think I took about 1200 shots...

Re: Atlantic City Airshow - Wednesday, 8/19/09
It was a very good show. It was very hot though I burned through 7 bottles of water and a ton of sun screen, I was even debating weather I should leave the show or not but I ended up staying, I got the VIP area and it was good and all but the speakers were really weak so I had to use my scanner but it also has lousy speakers.
Also I heard them talking about UAV's I couldn't make it out because of the bad audio.
And it seemed like the T-birds ended the show early is it just me or did they cut it around ten mins?
Well, after a few hours of sleep, a lot of water, I'm still a little tired, sore and dealing with sunburn on my face, arms and legs. Edited some shots from yesterday, but still have a ton to go through. Here are a few more shots:
This is Howard, who works at B&H - we ended up hanging out together a good part of the day, talking airplanes and cameras. He's shooting with a Nikon 600mm lens, on a film body! http://moose135.smugmug.com/photos/6...21_8nRpP-L.jpg

Amazing shots guys. This is one of, if not my favorite shows year in and year out.
Where are Howard's shots? You must be able to see the pilot's facial expression with that set up!

Re: Atlantic City Airshow - Wednesday, 8/19/09
I'm glad I was not aware of that as I was shooting! AC's show was definitely a good one this year and I'm thankful David Schultz was able to get Nick's guys to come down to the show again. The 106th should be AC regulars from now on... at least if I had my way.
All of my videos from Tuesday and Wednesday are up. You all know where to find them. :-)
Oh yeah... even if her top came off it would not be the first time I saw boobs at AC. Saw two women walking around topless during the 2008 show, and trust me, I wanted to gouge my eyes out from the sight... they weren't pretty and by they I mean the women and the boobs, maybe botched job?
