I just got a tip in that a Harrier supposedly landed at Republic around 6:30pm. Last time one was here it ran off the runway, but this time it might head out before it gets a chance to enjoy an extended stay.

I saw it going in, over my parents house. Loud bugger.
I was thinking, maybe he should JUMP outta there when he leaves ;)
It's an EA-6B Prowler. There were supposed to be 2, one broke en-route. It's in town for the Grumman folks to get a close up look, just like they've done a couple of times in the past. She's parked on the ramp near the terminal. Good spot for shooting through the fence, but there may be some ramp trash in the way.
Word is she is leaving around 1600 Tuesday. I can neither confirm nor deny the presence of night-time photos of said Prowler...
Thanks for clarifying Moose.
From my folks place in West Babylon, I heard her and saw her silhouette. I thought it was a Prowler's shape but in the twilight, I was unsure and took GrummanFan's word for it.
Probably one of my favorite military birds, right up there with the A-10
Eh, close enough. Sorry to get your hopes up folks! But its still a welcome visitor nonetheless.
I would like to see these non-existent night shots...
in due time....poor Moose was posting at 1am, he needs his sleep. Who do you think he is, Fred???

Was just there and as of 1:30PM EDT still sitting on the ramp close to the parking area with good spotting and no
trash in the way.
UPDATE:
News12 is running in the office and made mention of the Prowler at FRG.
Arrived back at 3:45 and a group of people were gathered around the aircraft. By 4:50 or so Rampage 1 departed out to the NW then came back and did two turns of the field at 2000 feet before heading out on
an IFR to the SE. Looks like they did a flyby of the Bethpage facility before coming back for their turns of the field. Lots of people taking pictures so I expect to see some pix later in the evening.
Gerard, I must have seen you - I arrived back at FRG around the same time you did. One of these days we are actually going to have to meet :)

Great job on the night pics Moose.
Is the Felix 101 still there or at its stand in Bethpage now?
Thanks. Felix 101 is still at the AAM, her move has been delayed. Hearing that if it doesn't happen in the next couple of weeks, it won't be until spring.

I was the guy in the shorts/T-shirt by the tan Honda SVU using the binoculars. I was planning on doing my 2
to 3 mile walk after but by the time I got home I opted for dinner instead!! LOL!! Was that you in silver Dodge
Stratus?

That is the sexiest plane in the Navy as far as I am concerned. Thanks for the capture.
Thanks moose, love the shots and I'm glad I was able to see it airborne.
Im still surprised at how loud she was :)

Having just given a lecture on ophthalmic matierials and eye health, I have to ask, does anyone know the difference in windshield materials on those top canopy windows vs the front facing windows? The windows appear treated differently.
Perhaps the upper canopy windows are in fact or a glare free nature, in order to reduce eye strain due to the many electronic screens that are inside?
Prop blur and a beacon - it's a decisive moment 2-fer! The canopy windows also have to be jettisoned in case of ejection, while the front windscreen remains in place. Perhaps it's different kind of glass owing to weight and thickness, etc... My other thought is that it's some sort of heat resistant coating to hold down the temps around all that electrical equipment while it's sitting in the sun on a carrier deck.
Also, it's an N-series modex, and the plane is attached to the Stennis, so it's a Pacific fleet EA-6B. Even rarer to see around the East Coast.
The gold coating on the canopy protects the crew from radiation when operating their jamming equipment. And yes, this bird was from VAQ-138 based out of NAS Whidey Island, Washington.
I love that bird. A friend was a pilot then a carrier instructor for the Prowler in the 90's.
LOTS of gold in that windscreen! It is like the screen of a microwave... It keeps the pilots from being cooked when jamming.
>Im still surprised at how loud she was <
To tell you the truth I didnt think it was that loud especially when they cranked up and taxied away, as opposed to the Thunderbirds which ONE SHIP had my ears drums vibrating big time when I stood by the fence bu the Main Terminal.
>That was me!<
I figured as much when I saw you haul out your rifle sized camera/lens!!
Next time I see ya I'll say hello.
I think that the A-6 is louder.... I think we need some engine data :D
I think that the F-14A was louder than the A-6 and the F-14D was less noisy than the A-6... The F-14D is like 2 F-16's! (same engine)
I will try and dig sumthin up!
Oh, I have bad hearing too, not sure if that hurts or helps :borat:
Awesome Moose! Really good shots there!
John, Great shots as always.
sexy, sexy, sexy! how long was she here for? too bad they're getting replaced by the E/A-18G....
Came in Monday (night?) and left Tues late aft.Quote:

Nice shots..they don't make them like that anymore sheesh.

There is actually only one pilot, the other front seat is the REO and the back seaters are the electronic countermeasure specialists.Quote:
