JFK this weekend: August 25-26
Ok since we have about god knows how many threads about this weekend I figured I'd start this so anyone who plans on going out this weekend can post. I'm planning on being out on Sat and maybe Sun if it pans out well but def Sat. We have some out of town visitors from Austria the U.K and Atlanta coming in. If you're free why not come out and show our out of town guests the NYCA spirit! WX is improving for Sat so drop what you're doing and come out!
-
Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26

Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
If anyone's going to be there Sunday, can he/she snap a photo of Delta FLight 17-JFK-ATL in the morning? (777)
If not, no worries :)

Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
I may be out at some point on Saturday...depends on which way the wind is blowing (in more ways than one).
-

Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
sounds really cool with lots of people around, really cant wait to meet some of you guys.
if we have sunshine i planned to shoot in the mornings or and afternoons, days dont matter.....the more the merrier. some sightseeing and touristy things during the day  can see myself riding the trains a lot.
cheers, florian
-
Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
Flo, you sticking around just for the weekend? As for the trains; make life easier on yourself and get an unlimited card once you get here.
-
Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
Well it looks like Saturday has gone back to partly cloudy when for a little while there it was saying chance of isolated thunderstorms. We shall see though.
You can't really trust weather reports these days and especially on humid days you should expect haze which is a real killer. A couple of weeks ago the weather report was saying "abundant" sunshine for JFK and when I got there the next day it was nonstop cloudiness and extreme haze.
The joys of summer, eh?
But one thing is for sure, when the weather is great it really is great in the summer afternoons and evenings.

Hey,
unfortunately yes...will stay Friday - Monday. I will depart back to BOS though around noon on Monday to catch my flight back to Europe at 6pm.
We'll see how weather turns out...hope the best.
-
Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
Well with these constantly changing wx forecasts, we are still a go.
Still trying to convince my family to come for 3+ hours. Will be there Sat afternoon, or Sunday AM or PM, depending on those clouds.
Look forward to meeting all of you.

Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
Well the temps in BWI have killed my wife's spirit (planned 101 on Sat), so it looks like I will be in town Saturday after all. I'll check the board tomorrow to see what everyone's plans are.

Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
Just an FYI runway 4/22 will be closed Sat and Sun morning until 0800. Looks 31s will be use early morning.

Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
31's are good in the morning you just need to see where the sun is. 22's will prob come to life later in the day as the wind is SSW.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the Mound-lovers, I want to take the opportunity to offer a word of friendly advice to Flo about the Mounds. PLEASE note that the area known as the Mounds, which someone will probably bring you to if the 22s are in use for arrivals in the late afternoon, has been known to have not-so-friendly bugs such as bees, ticks and mosquitos hanging around. This is because the Mounds are on the edge of a swampy area with lots of shrubs and plants that you will have to stand in the middle of. While there are some people that would suggest you never go there, I won't go that far, but I will caution you to wear bug repellant and any other precautionary clothing (such as long pants and/or long sleeves) you think necessary. Perhaps others, such as Nick V. who goes there often, can give you better and more specific recommendations for avoiding the bugs.
For that matter, I'd also highly recommend bug repellant (and suntan lotion) for Bayswater Park (for 04L/R arrivals in morning) and Frank M. Charles Park (for 31L departures in evening).
Flo, I am sure you'll have no problems at all, but I just want to make sure you know what the locals know about some of these particular spots. I would hate for you to come to NY and get bug bites and/or a bad sunburn. I've been there and done that too many times. :)
I wish I was in town this weekend to hang out with you and everyone, but unfortunately I'm not in town until next weekend. Have a great time in NY!
Josh

I would be hitching a ride with Gordon on Saturday but, I have a Counting Crows concert to go to. Wish I could be there with y'all.

Just some good bug spray is all you need. This whole summer I have needed it twice there. Maybe it's my blood but bugs never really seem to bother me that much. Check yourself for ticks after you leave and your fine. The light there is becoming an issue tho. Not getting far enough and it's basically over your right shoulder when you shoot. Keep that in mind.

Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
I'll be free Saturday. Gordon give me a call tomorrow.

Moose does this newbie know about the initiation? I'll remember to bring the paddles, leather, handcuffs, and chains. Well the chains may not be required, but just incase.

I'll make sure to give you a call, Kenny. I believe we will be pulling into JFK around 1:00pm.
Numbers 1-845-380-0120 for anyone who needs to get in touch tomorrow.
FIY LT1551/1550 will be operated by an A330-200 rather then the normal A330-300 on weekends and will be in new colors. Thanks Tamon!

Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
LTU is garbage, only their schemes are acceptable. Charter airline that has dreams of becoming Lufthansa's biggest nemesis, de facto those are Air Berlin's plans. Avoid them.

Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
WOWO, this mornigns visibility is just INSANE.
I took the camer ato the office today. Took a few photos driving up Pinelawn road and pulled over into the cemetary. As I took some phtos looking west towards FRG, the radio stated 1/8 mi visibility in Farmingdale

Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
Florian brought the fog! LOL, I am in Oceanside now and it's not good. I can barely see 100 yards in front of me.
-
Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
Listening to JFK Tower right now RVR is 800 feet on 13R! YUCK!
The outlook though is still good....starting around noon, hopefully it will burn off as planned or this weekend will be a bust.

Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
There's always the Cradle of Aviation if this fog doesnt lift.
-
Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
The fog will burn off in three or so hours once the temperature is more than 5 degrees above the dewpoint. Then it will be hot as hell and nobody will want to be outside :) But I'll see some of y'all later...I'm planning to be around JFK at 3 or so.
LGA is on the ILS 13 approach again!! If I didn't have anything else to do this morning, I'd get on the subway and go watch the planes from Morningside Park in Manhattan...I'm not sure if they're close enough to spot from there, but it's really cool to see the planes fly over Manhattan at that altitude.
-
Re: JFK this weekend: August 25-26
Well I'm leaving, hopefully this fog will clear!
