Yup.
Never really is bad out over Suffolk, as the storms move through the city out to Long Island they die out fast.
I was driving home to Long Beach from my aunts in Deer Park where Tommy conviently forgot to answer his phone and the light show was great North of Long Beach. Than when I go t home all hell broke loose over the LBC. I mean torental downpours! My dog was terrified.
Up on the north shore of Nassau County, we had some big storms - lots of lightning, and some heavy downpours.
crazy storms in west hempstead, lost power for 6 hrs and had to big tree branches come down in my yard
Didn't seem too bad in Midtown. I was at a party in the back of a pub where I couldn't hear any stormyness...when I left it looked like the storms had already past...I saw distant flashes of lightning, but it didn't look like it had rained very hard.
This evening should be exciting again. 80% chance of precip and likely strong storms.
Out by me (Southeast of ISP) there was some thunder, a decent amount of rain, but nothing to write home about.
Out here closer to Pennsylvania there was one really solid band of storms. We were getting lightning literally every second.
Saw on the Weather Channel today that parts of NJ got over 1300 lightning strikes yesterday!
There is currently a extremely strong cell lin e moving through Patterson at the moment on a bee line for LGA. This cell is approx 20 by 20 in size and very severe. Be on the lookout people. The shows just beginning which means I should probably be on the look oput and take cover as it nears the area folks. Very severe.
Put on your helmets...it's getting bad again.
These storms made me want to catch a shot of lightening. Tried for a while, but discovered that any time before dusk won't work well, even on the lowest ISO. It's also a very boring, repetitive, and tedious task. Plus, you never know when and where lightning will strike, and it's usually masked by the clouds. Anyone else get any lightening shots from any storm?
i was at JFK dropping off my sister on wednesday night. her scheduled departure was at 1959, she didn't leave until 0120 in the morning due to the storms. once she was past TSA we left and driving up the van wyck was ok until we got to jamaica. the downpour we had to drive though was interesting, and a sight to be behold for my neighbor from CA. it was an interesting night.
last night we were wettened by a few drops as another storm approached the city. about 2 minutes after we got into carolines the sky opened up and let loose again. i'll tell you this much, i'm glad i wasn't working but i would have loved to have been in our tower to watch the show...
Last night was not the best show actually. We had some close stuff but for the most part we were unobstructed except for a 14 minute closure in which no movement was allowed. (Iwiggled my toe anyway)
On Wed. I lost power for some time.
While I'm not in Poughkeepsie at the moment I have gotten reports back from my cousin and sister that the heat has been absolutely sweltering and that the storms in the past couple of days have been bad. I noticed the system on flightaware the other day and they looked pretty red!
Here I am in Cusco, Peru where it is freezing at night and the temperature changes multiple times during the day but never above 70. It also has not rained once since I have been here and apparently does not rain in July so come August when I am back some thunderstorms will be appreciated. :)
