I'll be out there Sunday; I wanted to go both days, but I'll be out in Pennsylvania on Saturday (coming back that night).
I'm planning on going Saturday...don't think Mom will like if I blow off Mother's Day for an airshow :)
I saw on the McGuire show site that there is an F-4 scheduled to be part of the Heritage Flight (they have a couple of the QF-4 drones painted in old SEA colors that they use at air shows) - I'm looking forward to that - I love Phantoms!
This kills me to say, but it's not going to happen this year. Being I now have to work on Sundays, mom's day is being celebrated on Saturday this year. I'll have to live it thru Moose & pgenglers photos!
I'll be there Saturday and Sunday! You guys might want to get to McGuire as early as you can...
You bet - last time (2005) I was sitting in line when they opened the gate...Quote:

Thanks for the heads up about the time guys, does it get that busy? Intellicast is saying partly cloudy and around 70 for both days as of now. Hope it stays that way.
I'll be there on Sunday. I'll finally get to wear my TWA tee shirt (pending good weather)!
I remember getting to McGuire two years ago when NYCAviation showed up in force (Akbar, Futterman, Dunetz) on the Sunday show... perfect weather but in the mid 90s... the news stations here said 400,000 people were at the show. I got there around 8:30 in the morning and was stopped about an mile and a half from a gate, compared to maybe a quarter mile the day before, when it was much crappier.
Keep in mind that there are no highways in the immediate area. Route 68 leads you to the base but it's hardly a highway by any stretch of the imagination. It's all two-lane roads (so is 68) so that's one problem. The New Jersey Turnpike is maybe a ten to fifteen mile hike from McGuire.
The Phantom that will be there is from Holloman AFB and will either be in SE Asia camo with or without the light grey bottom. I won't know which until I get there. Or maybe I could just ask the pilot... since we've been chatting about the show and such...
Is it backlit there?
To help get everyone in the mood, here is a link to my gallery of photos from the 2005 McGuire Open House:

Nice shots!
Hey Moose btw do you have any shots of the plane flying?
Could you post some?
Thanks
do you think the Fort Dix incident this morning will cause extra delays for security checks?
Good stuff Moose, I can't wait for this weekend.
I was wondering the same thing, it sure won't make things any easier though.Quote:

Is it true they aren't letting camera bags in?
Here's the main air show page:Quote:

From their FAQ

What are the changes to air show security?
Due to heightened security all backpacks, coolers, and tote bags must be left in the car and will not be allowed on base.
Signs will be posted at the entrances to the parking areas and gate areas reminding you of these restrictions. Gate officials may refuse admittance to persons trying to enter with such items.
So yes, you should be able to bring in a camera bag, but be prepared to have them look it over. Same procedure was in effect for their 2005 show. If you have a smaller bag, I would recommend using it, just bring in what you need.Quote:
Can I bring my camera/video camera/cell phone/scanner?
Yes! There are no restrictions on electronics. However, large camera bags will be searched thoroughly. Bring only necessary camera equipment, leaving extra attachments at home. A small fanny pack or camera vest is useful for carrying extra film and small lenses, subject to approval by gate security personnel and a hand-search at the gate.
How about a Mini Trekker AW? Do you think that would be ok?
The Thunderbirds were buzzing around late this afternoon in the Toms River area.
Anyone know how far is the walk from parking area to the flight line? I like to go but just had ACL surgery and can't do much walking.
