Well I got the call today I am moving back to New York this weekend me and a good freind are making the drive together on Friday and want to do this right on through I think I can pull it off in about 19 hours but I have never myself made this drive does anyone have any ideas on what to do prior to this safety precautions etc..... I am not a big fan of driving places over 100 miles away as it is.
Come on buddy, I did Texarkana to NY st8 last winter. It's easy. Be rested, do the preflight check on the car, air pressures and fluids etc. Bring some bottled water and enjoy the ride!

Step 2. Put car in drive.
Step 3. Drive north until you see the Empire State Building.

i hear through Baltimore area is tricky is this true? Just wondering the only other time I was involved in this drive waswhen I was 12 and I slept most of the way. I would rather go Amtrak autotrain but my company will no do it.
No, as long as you stay ON 95, you're fine. Don't mess around with the 195, 295, 395, 495, 695, etc. Get it?

Thats how I got lost, wound up in 95 and passed a sign that said New Yprk City 100 miles ahead, slammed on the brakes and got off the road.
Lord knows Tommy and the others didn't want my ass in town just yet :shock:

Alex in NY could be an interesting thing. Mel is right it's impossible to get lost driving Fla to NY. Watch the signs and you will be fine. Jump on 278 when you get up here and head through Staten Island and VIOLA you are back in Lawn Gyland!
Baltimore is simple - you have 2 choices: Fort McHenry Tunnel (95) or Harbor Tunnel (895). They both bring you back to the same place, although the Harbor has about a third of the traffic.
DC is the confusing one, since there's no highway that cuts straight through the city (295 will look tempting on the map, but it's a nightmare - a Gowanus-style urban trench). The 95 designation runs up the eastern half of the Capital Beltway (495); just pay close attention to the signs at the Mixing Bowl where 95, 395, and 495 all come together so that you wind up in the right lane.

fat chance the reason i am not flying lately is we have no business at the company I was with therefore no cashflow and hence therelocation SW Florida is a cesspool for aviation I have learned. I want bigger betterthings so I am moving home I got the learningetc... I needed down there and DC is the area I am worried about me and my freind are going to go right through. Cannotwait to live out winters home in NY again.
Well, I made it safe finally after a 26 hour trip. It was the worst drive ever!
Coming out of Sarasota we saw a jeep on its side in the trees at 9 pm on I-10 so we pulled over to check it out and the guy was just standing there kind of out of it so we called the troopers and once they got there got back on the road. The drive was great till we hit DC/Baltimore and got lost temporaraly because there was like 3 diffrent ways to go. Finally we made it got through the McHenry tunnel or whatever it is called and I blew my tire. By this point I was already exhausted so no fun I had to unpack the car put the spare on and than we drove up to the turnpike and I had to spend 100 bucks on anew tire at one of the service centers. From there on in it was traffic all the way through till we got into Brooklyn. Once we got there smooth sailing and I even popped in at JFK even though it was like 10 at night just to take a spin around the area. I made it alive though. Sorry I missed Kids Day Idle told me all about it though while I was getting my tire changed lol.
Well if anyone was to have such an adventure it most certainly would be you hiss....
I know that is the nature of my luck sometimes. Hey it was well worth it though today I killed some time on my balcony watching 31 arrivals drinking beer took a train for s&g since it has been about 5 years.
