What's the consequence of wondering off with your camrea?
Guys, I'm thinking I might actually do this. Anyone interested to join? C'mon, 5K is really not that long.
I'm thinking of doing this, but the last sentence on the "About" page was a little disappointing, "Runneres actually run on the longest Runway at JFK which is almost 14,000 feet, although only a short portion of the main runway is used for the 5K race." I was hoping to run the full runway plus a little extra to get to 5k. $18 to run around JFK airside and help a good cause works for me.
I think I am going to do this... anyone else going to? It'd be cool to meet some people from here!
hahhaha tht would be a great episode of cops lol should i start singin tht song lol =P thts not a bad idea at all i wouldnt mind it at all.Quote:

Looks like there are some photo ops: http://www.jfkrunwayrun.org/5k05/5k05-112.jpg
Does anyone think JFK security might stop people from taking photos?

Hey guys,
New member from Sydney,Australia. Just wondering how the people are transported from the terminal to the runway in this run.
Thanks,
Fred
Hey Fred, it looks like the race actually starts from another building on the field. Check out http://www.jfkrunwayrun.org/where.htm. If you are interested in taking the AirTrain, it looks like it can be done but isn't recommended. The FAQ on the site has another map of where the building is.Quote:

So who all is going? I'm all set and registered too... wonder what the best way to find each other would be. Any thoughts?
Even with the 80% chance of rain, I think I'll still go unless it's a torrential downpour.
As for finding everyone, why not just look for all of the people with huge cameras? ;)

I'm actually planning on running this thing. How about we all meet at the helicopter landing zone at 8:15 - 8:30? (Bottom left hand corner of the picture.)

Sounds like a plan. Sure looks like tomorrow will be crappy weather... but should be fun!
Hey, I just finish the race at JFK (I'm writing this post from my T-Mobile Sidekick). I came in at 40.29 minutes, lol. I ran some but walked most of the length. The wind was coming from the east so it was against us on the first half, but returning we ran westbound so it was a lot better. All of us got soaked in the freezing rain and high winds. Overall it was a great experience, I just hope I'm not sick tomorrow. Maybe the weather will be nicer next year. Did anyone else come out?
I was there. What a miserable run! The entire first half was into a 20 mph headwind! I think at one point it was even hailing!
The distance we actually ran on the runway was quite impressive though, probably a mile each way. If the weather is better next year, I will definitely do this again, but only if the weather is better. It certainly is a different way to see JFK. Congrats to all who ran it.
My time was around 23:15 or something.
Good job to both of you who braved it and still went out there. :)
great to hear about it!
now get home, bundle up and have some hot soup, its one of those days! LOL
First I was just going there to check it out, however I ended up signing up and doing the 5K. It was great!! The first half with that head wind was tough, the second half was alot better with the wind at my back and a bit less rain. While walking over the numbers for 13R I was thinking that I few weeks back I had just departed down this runway and now I am walking it. It was a great experience and I look foward to doing it next year.
Eric
I did it, but made the mistake of bringing my camera and lens. It really slowed me down and practically killed my back. I finished at 40 minutes.
We turned around a bit before T1, but still saw a Saudi 744 at T3 and an Evergreen 747 taxi not too far away.
It was a great way to see JFK, and I would definitely do it again provided there's nice weather.

Yeah I just got home... was awesome... I especially enjoyed the sleet (or what felt like it) the first part of the race. I came in at around 31 minutes and somehow managed to win 1st in the 20-25 category. Almost won the MaxJet raffle too!
Hey Will. I saw you, I finished just before you. And then I saw you get a massage. Did it work at all?
And by the way, anyone interested, the results were posted:
http://www.jfkrunwayrun.org/5k06/5k06rr.htm
I came in 108th, LOL
I really wish I could have gone today but I had previous plans to do the MS walk in the city with my sister. I am sure it would have been funner to get soaked running on 31L then walking around southern Manhattan!
I got the massage mostly because when they announced the 20-something age group, I knew it was going to take a long time to get to the raffle. So in that sense, the massage worked to kill a few minutes. As for anything else, I didn't feel any different.

I just realized I got first in my age group! Not sure how that happened since the first and third place runners overall were in my age group. Did you guys get medals or something for placing? I intend to run again next year, I just hope the weather is better.
