2 Planes having SEX over my Apartment (pictures included!!!)

I was out side and I saw this KC-10 with his thingy extended...

Then I noticed her getting closer

then it happened! YEP, RIGHT OVER MY HEAD, and I happen to have my camera with my
long lens attached.... Voyeurism at its best baby!!!

That's pretty cool. I guess the air traffic controllers need to be specifically told that the planes are doing midair refueling and not colliding.

Now, the question remains, if two KC-10s had a kid, what aircraft would it be?

Since when are they allowed to refuel out that way? I didn't think there was a refueling track near Long Island...

Not at all, John. The country is criss-crossed with AR tracks. Here is a map, a couple of years old, but should still be fairly accurate.

Back in my KC-days (or is that KC-daze?) flying out of Grissom, we regularly used AR110, across southern Missouri, and AR101, north/south across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas. AR110 was our "home field".

Steve, there isn't an AR track in the Long Island area (at least not according to that map). When Fred first told me about this sighting, I thought it might be a couple of McGuire birds out training (it may very well be) but it may also be a bird deploying and getting a top off along the way. Enroute refueling outside of an AR track is also legal - you get a block of airspace from center, declare "MARSA" (Military Assumes Responsibility for Separation of Aircraft) and away you go.
