Re: Jones Beach Airshow 2010
Hello everybody. Just found this site today when doing my annual look for any & all info on the Jones Beach airshow :D There is going to be a Coney Island show as well?! WooHoo!
I was REALLY hoping to see the F-22 again this year... that show was amazing when it was here in '08. To me, it's not the prettiest plane to look at, but man can it perform/maneuver! And its' LOUD!! I want to hear more 'Thunder' at this show :borat:
I live very near to AAM/Republic & pass by frequently. I volunteered one summer at AAM back in '05, it was a great experience. I often wonder what it would have been like 60 years ago to hear squadrons of freshly built planes flying overhead... sigh. I miss the F-14 as well, I lived out in Baiting Hollow briefly & was right in the flight-path of when they would test planes from the Grumman facility in Riverhead... I loved that :).
You guys have some amazing pictures posted here & in the links you've provided. It sound like some of you are the pilots on some of the warbirds hosted in the area? I want to learn to fly, and have taken a few lessons, but I never seem to have both the time & the money at the same time, lol. Someday I hope to have the extra $$ to get a B-17 flight, that would be awesome!
Anyway, nice to read all of your posts & hope to see you around!
Bill

Re: Jones Beach Airshow 2010
Thats not a big increase if you compare to all the other stuff that has risen in price. $10 is still a good price if you ask me. Hope they didnt raise food prices though i wouldnt know how you would move through that crowd

That's a different Matt Chapman. The Matt Chapman you are thinking of is from Sydney Australia who is the Crew Chief for the ASB.TV Extra 330. The Matt Chapman that is coming to the Jones Beach Airshow is a US aerobatic pilot who fly's on behalf of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
-
Re: Jones Beach Airshow 2010
MATT CHAPMAN... probably one of my favorite performers... great guy, always "available" for people, not like a lot of aerobatic pilots "rock star" Im always having good time talking to him, and always a pleasure to see him in the sky....
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3640/...45f86890_o.jpg
There is a mistake on JBAS official website... Ed Hamill - Air Force Reserve Biplane Show - its actually not AIR FORCE RESERVE any more... I don't know details but looks like AFR will not sponsor Ed Hamill anymore... its a huge surprise...
OLD COLORS... NEW ARE WITHOUT WHITE TXT and AF Logo
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3623/...5c9b2a07_o.jpg
And here is Ed Hamill with Golden Knights....
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3368/...84433246_o.jpg
and one more mistake... Captain Johnnie Green from the A10 East Demo Team.. not Captain anymore... promoted 2 months ago... Major now :P
Im thinking to maybe see Jones Beach Airshow 2010... just cuz of David Windmiller, its not easy to catch this guy :) he performing just a few Air Shows a year... but he is my favorite performer ever...
-
Re: Jones Beach Airshow 2010
Wow, I'm very surprised about Ed Hamill. I'm pretty sure this is a mistake but does anyone know if Chuck Aron will perform this year?
-
Re: Jones Beach Airshow 2010
Looks like he will be in Andrews this year so he may do JBAS also cuz its not to far from Andrews and the show is 2 weeks later... fance check is not saying anything about it, but this year is little weird, lots of performers didn't post full schedules yet, which is weird cuz usually in the middle of march they all have everything ready for the season with maybe couple open dates.... Ed Hamill usually posting his schedule jan-feb, Matt Chapman also, now they all not sure where and when they will fly :) Hope to see some clear situation for the May and jun at least. I also noticed that Military Demos, fly bys and heritage flights schedule looks like "not finished yet", can u believe that we will not see demos of at least one: F16, F15 or A10 in Andrews AIR FORCE base ??? I don't know whats going on :) But don't take me wrong for me they can schedule Cessna Skyhawk demo and I will be very happy :P Air Show is Air Show and I can't wait for the first one this year for me... Andrews AFB :)
-
Re: Jones Beach Airshow 2010
Yeah its pretty odd indeed. I assume these problems are because of budget issues and the performers don't have anything finalized yet. Maybe Steve can help us clear this up.
-
Re: Jones Beach Airshow 2010
Thanks for putting me on the spot!
Chuck Aaron is listed on the Jones Beach Airshow website, so I'm thinking he'll be there.
Can't say I'm surprised about Ed Hamill losing sponsorship, since Bill Braack also lost his AFR sponsorship for the jet car. I suppose it has to do with budget cutbacks... don't quote me on it because I don't even know myself, but I would imagine that's the reason. John Klatt seems to be ANG-sponsored, so that's good.
Just wait until you see Kirby Chambliss fly his airshow performance!
-
Re: Jones Beach Airshow 2010
To be honest I do not believe in this all budget BS.... anyway Ed Hamill will be introduced probably many times this year as a Air Force Reserve cuz he always been AFR Bi Plane pilot :))

If I remember correctly John Klatt is a Major in the Minn ANG and flies F-16's for them during combat ops.

Re: Jones Beach Airshow 2010
I will be streaming scanner audio and will have frequency guides online for the airshow.
The frequency guides is a cut down version of the Monitoring Times wrap-up, plus some MilComm monitoring post updates, that are filtered down to only those performing at the beach.
I enjoy listening to the practice runs while shooting.. it usually give you an edge since you can kind of hear what direction the performers are coming from.
I'll update this thread with a link when I have the lists finalized.
Looking forward to the show!
-
Re: Jones Beach Airshow 2010
talk to Phil or Matt - they will post the link to the stream on the main page, I believe they will post something about Air Show in the news section, Im not gonna see JBAS this year but I would like to listen :P

Re: Jones Beach Airshow 2010
Hi Guys,
I hope all is well and I always seem to come here around this time of the year and I am sure you know why,
Well this year when I logged in I found myself linking to the "AI2010 NYC Ramp Tours for August - BUY TIX NOW" post!
http://nycaviation.com/forum/ai2010-nyc ... 18728.html
Next thing I know I am purchasing a Registration Form & Tour package & now getting totally psyched fot that!! Would like
to maybe see who here is going in or around July... would like to meet up.
Anyway, I took a lot of shots myself last year at FRG on Thursday. Caught a lot of stuff and was really nice later in the day to enjoy a frostie in Applebees only to be greeted by the arrival of the snowbirds as we walked out! After that the A10's landed and I was right in there...
Glad to see this thread running and look forward to it.
Dave
