Yes you couldnt get near the Liberty hangar unless you had the right credentials!! The fenceline just west of Liberty on Smithtown Road was roped off and patrolled by youngsters in military fatigues!! I was also in the private lot and it was great no one was bothering anyone and great sightlines for pictures of the aircraft!!!!
It got real dark and started raining as they came in today so the shots aren't very good. But, it is good to see some fast movers back in the area. I love this time of year!!!

The first group was T-Bird 1-3, followed by 4 & 6, then followed by 5 & a single extra jet.

Not sure what this guy was in town for but saw him on final to ISP shortly after the last of the T-Birds arrived.

Tim, I heard that C-130 was for Fleet Week support.
I got "behind the rope" at Liberty hangar, doing some shooting for Sheltair.

As always Moose, excellent shots!
That C-17 took off in less than 1000'! I'm sure that makes some 135 fly boys jealous! ;) *EDIT* Upon further video review, it was ~1700 feet, Tanker Drivers can breathe a sigh of relief...
that makes sense that the 130 is here for Fleet a week as it looked to be a Marine Bird. I saw him parked over at Excel on Wednesday.
I'm going to hit the beach today to beat the crowds a bit.
Great shots Moose!
Yup weather looking quite nice for the practice show.
When I got to Islip around 2:45 a C-130 was just taking off!! Maybe the same one returning!!
That C-17 is a beast and I was parked by the Customs hangar when it took off and a number of us there were just in awe how little runway it needs to get up!!
I got it on video. Crappy as it was through the fence.

Is the practice scheduled for a noon start as well? Give or take? Heading to the beach now. Excited to see the Tbirds
Practice is noon to five
Thunderbirds just buzzed my house in line gear down! Wish I had my camera ready
Can anyone recommend if it's better to stay at the meseum on Saturday or Sunday? The beach would be the other day.
Or do you guys recommend beach both days?
If you go to the website for the show they have past attendance and it looks like Sunday has had higher attendance in the past. Plus tomorrow is supposed to be 65 while Sunday 75
Is the practice start time delayed?
Yes, it was delayed until around 1PM.
Chris is the delay due to the wind? Or did they just figure out that could tie up the airspace for less time with the lesser amount of performers.
I was able to catch the NYC Flyover from Battery Park.
They made several passes for the photo op with the World Trade Center and the Statue of Liberty.

Note the Jetblue flying overhead from LGA - there was a lot of other traffic at the same time

Do we have an approximate launch time from ISP today (Friday) for the practice? I'll run outside at work as I'm in the departure path of 24.
TBs departed ISP Runway 24 at 3:45 pm today. I had the whole office on the east side of the building outside to watch. The departed in trail and flew right overhead our location. I will be at the beach tomorrow with the family. I'm hoping that with a forecast of 64 and breezy that the heaviest crowds will be on Sunday when its forecast to be sunny and 75! I'm planning on more windburn than sunburn.
What crazy weather at the beach today!! Breezy and bright sun, blue skies!! Then 1PM clouds roll in and it got a wee bit chilly!! And just as the TBirds come in so do the dark clouds with some light rain but that didnt stop the show!! In fact, if you asked me, the afterburners looked much brighter in that weather and the solo guys sounded a little louder (YAY) than usual!!
Grey skies and white planes .............. ugh ....... should have left the camera in the bag .....................

Are there any good spots at Islip? The only shots I have of the TB's from 2011 are unrecoverable from the CD I saved them to :(
Its a shame they decided not to stay at FRG this time around.
Yeah, it sure was crazy weather down there today especially with those unexpected clouds rolling in !! Ugh !!:frown:
Fred, I'm not sure why exactly the start was delayed but I believe it had something to do with JFK traffic.
Anyway, like Gerard said, dress WARMLY because it's supposed to be even cooler down there tomorrow!!
Can anyone recommend if one day is better for the beach vs FRG/Islip?
Based on past history Saturday at the beach is less crowded. If I was able to get to the beach I would be going down today.
Im guessing I just saw the Breitling team on the horizon, as I was westbound on Sunrise Highway in Bayshore at about
9:02 AM. Looks like then made a smoky pass. practice run I suppose.
Im in my office now. Seeing patients but love that I can just watch them making passes at FRG right from the office.
G-d Bless the USA
The did a flyover of NYC, Mario, you saw their return.
I know they cancelled the super hornets. But any news about the parachute teams if they are performing. I know they didn't practice. I was was windy but I don't see them at republic ether.
Tough shooting yesterday
Some of BJT

Golden Knights arrived Friday but did not jump. They departed for the beach around 11:45, I assume they are jumping but I don't know what the conditions are there now.
Did the TBirds do a FlyOver of FRG before heading back to ISP? I watched them long distance with the help of my trusty binoculars from Wantagh Park wheere we actually got a few fast passes and even some puffs of smoke LOL!!
It was a touch sky with cloudy weather during Practice Friday, but here are a couple of pix:

No, the Thunderbirds didn't flyover FRG and just hugged the coast and headed east out to ISP.
