Have a great time everyone that is going. Last year at the practice show we got hit with such a heavy downpour that it cut the practice down to only a few performers. Sadly, I have to miss this years show.

Thunderbirds put on a nice practice today.
I'll be sitting just right of show center tomorrow
Surprisingly it is not crowded at all at this time
The haze is horrible. Worst I've seen in a long time. Hopefully it burns off
OK. And the Hoizon BCBS Blimp demo kicks things off. These guys are tearing the place up
So far no F-15's , only 1 pass from th NJ ANG F-16's, no USN Greyhound, only 2 USCG Dolphins and the USCG C-130 made 2 high passes during the rescue demo and if you didn't look up you missed it.
Bone sighted
That's what she said...
One lame pass from the B1. No demo
Thunderbirds demo seemed short.
It definitely was. Just a little over 20 minutes and the ending was like....WTF? What happened?Up to that point they
were good but with gaps. No high show for the most part but 2 high speed passes that did scare the crap out of everyone!! But a short show is better than none!
Black Diamond soloist KICKED BUTT with those nap of the earth runs!!
I agree, the Thunderbirds display was mediocre, the B-1 passes were nice but not enough. My favorite of the day were the F-4's and the F-4/P-51 flyby. The P-51 and Spitfire solos were great.
The 787 formation flyby was fantastic..... what? Nobody stayed for the 5:00 p.m. flyby?

Well compared to the other years I have been to Atlantic City this year's show was by far the most disappointing in my opinion.
First the lighting was horrible. Just aweful haze. The wind was off the ocean and kept the beach cool but was steady and strong enough to carry all the smoke from the performers onto the beach. Going to be tough to get keepers from this one, especially the morning performers.
Two, The F-16 flyby was only one pass this year and no single ship passes. Usually the home town F-16's make a few passes.
Three, no F-15 Eagles, never showed.
Four, no USCG MH-60 in the SAR demo. Never flew. Just the two Dolphins, which did a nice demo as always.
Fifth, during the USCG SAR Demo the USCG C-130 made two high passes over the SAR demo. If you didn't look up from the dem you missed the C-130.
Sixth, the USN SeaHawk fly by was one pass from behind the show over the beach, out to sea and gone. Oh well.
Seventh, the US Navy Greyhound never showed.
Eigth, the amount of smoke from the Skytyper vs Speedboat race just wiped out the beach for a good 5 minutes.
Ninth, the B-1 was the "Surprise demo." and was lame. He came in from behind the show went out over the ocean, broke to the left made a large loop and made one pass from left to right in some of the worst haze and smoke you have ever seen.
Tenth, the Thunderbirds were up for about 25 mins tops. First shot in camera shows 3:03PM, last one shows 3:28PM. nd they just seemed to stop the demo short, it looked unfinished. Plus aside from two high speed passes a very tame show, they didn't tear the place up at all.
Eleventh, THE GOOD:
- Demos from Jim Beasley in the P-51 and Spitfire were just outstanding. What wonderful performances to watch and enjoy.
-Demo from the Black Diamonds was just outstanding too. Great low speed passes, tight formations. Very enjoyable.
- Two F-4 Phantoms always great to see and paired withthe P-51 was a nice Heritage flight.
- Easy in and out, light traffic out of the city in 10 minutes. Absolutely no crowd at show center.
This is my 8th year going dwon to Atlantic City and in my opinion it was the weakest show i have been too. Very disappointing overall.
Some pictures later on.
here are my shots from the airshow

The Thunderbird shots are from Yesterday's Practice as today they had some issues. No High Show, they missed a cross and one went mechanical. I talked to one of the members of the Thunderbird team and according to her they only didn't perform 4 maneuvers, but to me it seemed like a lot more.
By the way the aircraft that flew into AC the other afternoon which I thought may have been the surprise for the show were 2 A-10's.
Maybe they were making a stop on their way to the Maryland ANG
Even though most of this has been covered here are some show notes:
- F-15 flybys canceled they "couldn't spare the jets"
- USCG MH-60 Demo canceled
- USCG C-130J flyby was high altitude
- Navy C-2A flyby canceled
- Navy T-6 Texan flyby canceled
- Thunderbirds cut short due to birdstrike
Even though it wasn't the best Atlantic City Airshow, I am happy at ANY airshow. Plus seeing things I'll probably never get to see again like the 2 F-4's and P-51 was worth going within itself.
I'm looking at my pictures and it looks like the 177th had AMRAAM's onboard. Is it typical for non-demo teams to fly at airshows with ordnance on board? I'm not knocking them I'm just wondering.
Just got back from the Jersey Shore. Nice ride home after a fun two days in AC. Reading posts here and elsewhere with people showing no love and disappointed with yesterdays show. Well Kenneth kinda stole my thunder  with his comment about being happy "at ANY airshow"!! Couldnt agree more. Hanging out on the beach on a warm summer day sure beats being in work or many any other places. Yeah the show had some issues most notably the quick end to the TBirds performance but what can you do about that? DAMN BIRDS!!! And the haze and sun is a big pain for photogs but I use my Canon Point and Shoot and that's what i do, point and shoot and lets see what happens later. Actually got some interesting results. I love this show!! Its a cool mix of Big Metal planes, high performance aerobatic teams, helicopters and warbirds!! This year I stayed at the Atlantic Palace on NY Avenue and had this amazing view of the beach. From that vantage point I could see there was plenty of room on the beach on the north side of The Pier and that was where I set up, right on the shoreline!! Left my room at 10:45 and as soon as I saw the Golden Knights coming down I was in position!! Also with most of the Flybys coming North to South I got a nice heads up seeing them in the distance though I wasnt sure if the B-1 was even coming backl!! And there was plenty of room on the beach. Once again the Black Diamond Jet team didnt dissapoint and Jim Beasley in the Mustang and Spitfire was amazing. This was my 3rd year here and I will be back (hopefully) next year also!!
Had this brief conversation with a woman on the Boardwalk I sat next to waiting for the Golden Knights to jump before i headed to the shoreline!! She was complaining that her husband was already on the beach and when will the show start? I gave her a little synopsis on what to expect and she looked up at my hotel and said now that would be a great place to watch the show!! I said my room faces the beach and I had a great view but I wouldnt be able to hear anything!! "Why do you have to hear it"? she asked. I smiled politely and said "You have to hear it!! The sound and noise of the engines makes it even better". "Oh like car racing" she replied. I nodded and just then I saw the chutes of the Golden Knights opening so I bid her a good day and headed down. I dont think she ever moved from that bench!!
Do we know which Bird hit the bird? Soloist?
And speaking of the haze do you think all the smoke from the planes all day built up and contributed to the problem?
Also forgot to mention the two F-4s who made the first real contribution for some thunder and the 3 ship Heritage Flyby was very nice. So was the F-16 hooked up to the KC-135!!
I believe it was Thunderbird #1. I THINK the Thunderbirds can do an abbreviated demo is someone drops out due to a mechanical issue but since this was the team leader they had to end.
It was also reported that they said over the PA system that they had to abort an opposing pass due to the birds.
I believe the sole reason for the haze was that the weather conditions were perfect for it.Quote:

Although our friendly skytyping neighbors didn't help out at all

Kenny,
What time did you get there to get out on the pier?
Thanks Kenny that makes sense with it being the team leader. On the north side where I was everyone looked around and said well that must be it. Figured something must have happened. If I remember it looked like one of the soloists did a pass then he left to catch up with the others.
LOL yeah the Geico boys belched out mucho smoke but also did a nice performance (as usual)!!
glad I made it to the practice on Thursday.

Got down there early on Thursday so I decided to give me a look anyway. Was over by the GA hangar when I saw the TBirds taxing out to the Runway. Drove to this spot by the Terminal where a bunch of trailers are set up and parked and got to see the TBirds depart. I left right after that and saw some of the show driving in while tryin not to crash either!
T-Bird #3 (Major Caroline Jensen) had the bird strike. I spoke to 8 after the show & he said she got back down fine & with the conditions (Haze & birds) getting worse, it was safer to knock it off.
They had a maneuver mid show that had to be aborted because of birds at show center as well.
As for the show itself, I thought it was great. People are bitching because there weren't more military acts but when questioned, most didn't know that there are no more military teams anymore to speak of. Not to mention, how dare you complain about a FREE SHOW! Uninformed jerkoffs for the most part.
To see a B-1, 2 F-4's, a F-4/Mustang Heritage Flight, Northeast Raiders (OUTSTANDING!) & my personal fav in the show, the Black Diamond Team in one show is as good as you're going to get at any civilian show this year.
Damn bird must have been obliterated!! You'd think they would avoid the area having some sense of self preservation. But I guess that is why we use the term "Bird brain" for dumb people!! Ever see them swarming by the lights of The Pier at night? Its an amazing sight and I'm surprised they dont crash into each other there are so many!!
you had me there for like, half a second where I was going 'wait, what...' LOL
I had to run down to DC for the weekend so I'm only now sitting down to start editing- from a photog perspective I was complaining to myself about the light(because it seems like I have been shooting into the sun at McGuire, Jones Beach, and AC) but just to be able to lay there on the beach watching all those guys and gals fly around was real nice
A few of mine so far. Practice on Thursday.

Yeah, the GU-11's were flying their Demo's all day...

What I managed to salvage from Friday- they really need to have these airshows start later in the day when the sun is at a better angle. Either that or I need to buy a boat. The haze got so juicy I could take a bite out of it! So I had to get a little creative with some of the shots. I left before the T-Birds show to try to beat some of the traffic out of there. I was north of show center to try to offset the sun a little but it didn't seem to do much. Despite all that it was a real pleasure to see airborne F-4 Phantoms for the first time in over 20 years.
