Saw an interview with one of the EL Al pax. Said the crew was great, fed them and all was fine. He said may read or used their laptops. Then again a 747 is a bit better than an A320.

Just made it to work... NYC Sanitation Truck got stuck itself trying to plow my street. It was about 1 1/2 feet deep in the center and uphill LOL. I also had to help one of their supervisors who decided it was OK to go out in his Prius... dumb move... Not only is it front wheel drive, it has no Posi Traction (limited slip, and it was really limeted LOL) two Sanitation workers and myself just kept pushing while he stepped on the gas. It was weird having the wheels moving fast and only a slight whine hahaha.
Anyway, things are bad in NYC... The Henry Hudson is open and north of the GWB it is very clean, at least two lanes perfectly clean... drove 65mph no probs. The inner streets, even Broadway, is still pretty snowed in about 2 inches... it has been plowed, but then there is the darn wind...
Our parking lot at work is a 8 story structure, open on all sides... there were cars INSIDE that were totally covered.
@Quantas.. Matt good luck coming to NYC... hopefully you'll make it in time before you have to go back home :-)
TEB is back up with 6/24 plowed, runway 1/19 is still closed but expected to re-open at 1200 local. The major 3 however aren't doing so well, closed with re-open status unknown.
Updates on airport re-openings:
Atlantic City Intl (KACY) is currently experiencing an airport closure until Monday at 06:00PM EST due to snow.
Newark Liberty Intl (KEWR) is currently experiencing an airport closure until Monday at 06:00PM EST due to snow.
Long Island Mac Arthur (KISP) is currently experiencing an airport closure until Monday at 05:00PM EST due to snow.
John F Kennedy Intl (KJFK) is currently experiencing an airport closure until Monday at 06:00PM EST due to snow.
LaGuardia (KLGA) is currently experiencing an airport closure due to snow.
:frown: What about poor little FRG?
I just saw on the news FRG is reopened. They say 6PM for EWR, JFK and LGA.
Yup just heard 2 "Exec Jets" depart on Tower.
Have to tell you I took a walk in my neighborhood around 315 and the snow is a major pain but damn it looks pretty, Bright sun, blue skies you can really enjoy this wonder of
winter which always looks the best the hours after the storm blows out.
I took the wife's car to the library--should have checked first- closed ....the only clean road in my area was Vanderbilt Parkway...and on the main street in my development, the guys are dumping snow from driveways right in the street.
My car is still in need of cleaning off, and the daughter's car (92 Roadmaster) is happily buried on the street. I will worry about that one tomorrow because I don't want her driving that in the snow anyway.
Stay safe friends.
Lufthansa pilot just called in to get a status on the runway.
Kennedy Ground answered: "Its new, about 200ft wide and its concrete."
First arrival into Kennedy is Royal Jordanian H/A342. Landing 31L.
JFK opened about 15 minutes ago. Only 31L is open and it sounded like only a few taxiways as well - this should get interesting. RJA261 is the first at the party after some crazy holding in SE CT and over the Island.
Should get fun with only a couple ways to the one runway and everyone wanting to go. Get some popcorn everyone, its going to be a long night
RJA really struggling to taxi it seems.
Here comes Qantas!
and the A380 is right behind Qantas.
This JFK controller is without a doubt the most entertaining!!
American 2 Heavy, JFK Tower, You are following the SUPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPER A380
261 just made it to the gate.
EDIT: Can't make it in do to snow.
General aviation trying to get in on 31L
The Command Center is hosting a NY METRO SCHEDULE TELCON at the top of the hour, 0100z (2000 local), to "to discuss how airlines plan to reconstruct their schedules into the New York Metro area tomorrow." Where to begin...
TEB is closed once again, estimating re-opening tomorrow, 12/28 at 1100z (0600 local). Same estimate for EWR according to the ATCSCC.
JFK Ground: Snow Team 1 can I hold planes waiting for gates on 22R?
Snow Team 1: Uhh, No.
AND FINALLY RJ 261 into the ramp!
LOL I SPOKE TO SOON THEY TOLD HIM TO HOLD
The G4 wants a progressive taxi!
Lufthansa 4 Tango 9 will be the first departure!
Speaking of FRG, New Highway CLOSED from Conklin to Route 109 due to icy roads. Lots of black ice out there. BE CAREFUL ALL!!
Sounds like a mess! I listened into LiveATC like 2 hours ago when AA24 was on final and landed, and just listened to it real quick and it sounds like they are still taxiing...
Whats going on with this Newark divert?
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/AEU413
BA just denied him a gate.
Sounds like he came from Iceland, diverted to PHL then was supposed to head up to EWR but had to divert to JFK. No one knows know who is going to take care of him at JFK in terms of gate and servicing. Callsign is Flystar 113 or something like that. Sucks to be those pax..
Kennedy Ground getting VERY testy with Air France 6 Super.
Said he would like him in Paris
and now a lufthansa is stuck in the snow
appears to be a Fuel truck that ran out of fuel.
Did the live atc feed die?
nope has been a lot of fun! :-) Ground is BUSY!!
Bloomberg reported today this is the most snow ever dumped on the north east in December for over 6 decades!
I was out with my daughter last night downtown Manhattan at The Apple Store before coming home... We saw Lightning and Thunder and about what felt like 50-60MPH wind gusts... never in my life have I experienced Lighting/Thunder in snow and those hurricane winds!
Probably not major news, but, it seems JFK is a parking lot. CX 840 was on the radio with Ground (?) begging for a gate. BA is full. In fact all the terminals are full. The best Ground could offer was Terminal 4 with 5 aircraft ahead of her.
Just posted some pics...

I'm curious. As of 1:30 AM EST, does anyone know if the Conduit and Atlantic Avenue has been cleared by NYSD in Queens and Brooklyn? Or is everyone relying on the Belt and Van Wyck? Are they clear?
I'm heading to bed. Kudos, btw, to the tower and ground controllers at JFK. They seem to have been handling this mess quite competently considering the circumstances. In between the frequency of reporting wind and braking conditions to arriving and departing flights, and the consistent check ups on aircraft and their passengers waiting for gates or TO slots on the ground, I think this negates all critics who pan these professionals. I only mention JFK because it's my long time favorite and this is what my radio is set on. I have no doubt LGA and EWR have come through with Flying Colors as well.
