A bit off-topic. I am building a replica of Zahns for use in a flight simulator.
(Project details at http://research.sun.com/zahns and http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/grou ... 4035696918 )
I am looking for pilots who flew at Zahns who might have some old photos of the place that they might be willing to share.
Would you have any old Zahns photos? (or know anyone who might)?
Thanks so much,
Charlie Jackson

That's correct Art, Northeastern did operate DC-8s out of there. I can recall them screaming over my house blowing thick black smoke as they went by. I also do recall if I'm remembering correctly Ron saying they did have A300s there. Eastern brought in the 757 to ISP for sometime as well.

Yes you are...of course, when I learned to fly at FRG, Zahn's was still open...Rwy 32 meant right traffic only, cut your base leg tight to avoid crossing the Southern State...roll out on runway heading over the numbers...
Re: MacArthur: A Welcome Departure
That is still fun to do if ATC will let you.

You are forgetting one small item. Just because a runway is a certain length, doesn't mean it is RATED for the heavier weights. As per the FAA-AFD (Airport Facility Directory) ISP cannot handle an aircraft over 300,000lbs. So, a 757-200 is the biggest you will see there.

Runway 6/24
Dimensions: 7006 x 150 ft. / 2135 x 46 m
Surface: asphalt/grooved, in excellent condition
Weight bearing capacity:
Single wheel: 100.0
Double wheel: 210.0
Double tandem: 300.0
I'm still going back to what I said. You can probably fit MD-80's in there.
Re: MacArthur: A Welcome Departure
You CAN fit MD-80's in there. AA used to do it all the time. Spirit flew them there. USAir occasionally subbed one there and SunJet I think used to serve ISP with them as well. In fact, I flew on a few Spirit ones to RSW in the late 90's to RSW.

You can get MD80s in there. AA use to run MD's to RDU and ORD before downsizing to F100s, then ERJs...then nothing.
Re: MacArthur: A Welcome Departure
Oh, wow, I totally forgot about the RDU hib service. I miss seeing the Fokker tail popping up over the terminal building there when you would pull in over on the corner where Southwest is now. Or better yet, Carnival 734 and 732 action. Did ISP ever see Carnival /PanAm 722's there?

Oh yes they certianly did have PA 722s there. I recall seeing them rather often as well as Carnival's 722s

Nice. I actually have some really old photo's of some of this stuff.
Re: MacArthur: A Welcome Departure
Do post sir. I would love to see that stuff. Nothing like old 90's LCC jets and colors. :borat:
Re: MacArthur: A Welcome Departure
Not taling about them. The oldest ones I have are post 9/11 U.S. Air shots my father took for me upon request. I have to scan them in order to get them up.
Re: MacArthur: A Welcome Departure
None the less do post. As a former USAirways guy I always enjoy a good trip back down memory lane.
