Im thinking they'll leave around 5PM or so.
Hello All,
I was able to go out to the airport and hung out by the gate area next to the Museum. The guard at the gate was very nice, he let a few of us
stand there for hours with no problem. The Canadian CF-18 Crew must be the friendlies crew ever. They let everybody come up to their airplane, in small groups. I was able to take a few pics of the CF-18's plus I took a nice video of the Hornet's pre flight at about 1530. The pilot then decided to turn into the runway right there by that gate and lit up the afterburners for takeoff! I had to cover my ears since I didnt have earplugs. It felt like a small earthquake! Incredible. I was by the Dave & Busters lot when the Canadian F-18 came in to land along with the 2 US Hornets at about 1700. The US Hornets landed on the other rwy while the CF-18 landed by the Dave & Busters. I had a great time. Thanks to everyone in this forum for all the spotting tips!
15 mins! No wonder I missed the meet & greet, I had not gotten out of field 6 yet.Quote:

First off, nice photos folks!
Sorry, I would have liked to have met more of you and bumped into more folks. I had my daughter in her stroller and stopped draggin that thing about 100 past the boardwalk!
Loved the Blues Echelon rolls. Loved the entire show and it brought back memories to when I was them doing the same moves back in DC in late 79!
Being this was my first time to see the Jones Beach Airshow (not the first time seeing the Blues though,) I have to say I was happy with what I saw. Maybe I'll be brave to do the Sat/Sun show in the future!
Of course, one of the best moments was when the diamond crew where doing there pass while I knew 5 and 6 would be getting ready to do a clandestine run across the deck. But one is never prepared for it!
Yes, that one Angel came really low across the water, so low that from our vantage point 100 feet from the boardwalk, we could not see him across the deck, only hearing him until he pulled up. And of course, I was glad to see the second guy blast right above us!
Good fun and my son enjoyed it! (My daughter didnt even notice a thing except the sound.)
Good times!
Have a great weekend guys!
Dusty will tweet out some of the flying schedule after the morning brief.

Good to see some familiar faces today....
Finally was able to stop at the terminal today and take some test shots with my new camera. Nothing fancy. I'll try my hand at some aerial shots this weekend.
About that low pass...do they perform that at the actual show? I thought there were safety regulations. Not that I would mind having a Hornet fly so close to me. Must have been awesome to be right there.

In other news, the Live Scanner Stream on my site is good to go for the Air Show tomorrow. A lot of listeners where logged in today. I didn't hear anything negative come back, so I am assuming it is working well.
I also have the Air Show audio being archived in 30 minute blocks to my website. http://www.w2lie.net/download.php?list.41
See you around Republic & The beach!
Outstanding shots so far from everybody that has made it so far down to FRG and at the practice show on Friday.... I got down to the practice show about 930-940am and hung out with Moose and John Klos and his family...... I missed the WWII aircraft and the Blue Angles, had to leave for work..... Got also to meet Eric for the first time, don't know what handle you go by on the forums.....
Will be down at Jones Beach on Saturday with my NEW lens
(Canon 100-400mm L lens).... Treating myself early for my birthday in June...
Can't wait to get some sweet shots with this lens compared to my
Sigma 18-200mm. If you see a guy with a Alaska boonie hat, thats me......

Some of mine from the Angel arrival. Note the usual quality I have :( I cant seem to get a break even once. Oh wait I did on the 400 ISO film. Hopeing I can catch a huge break during the show. I will go crazy if I spend $20 again to have a handful come out good out of the batch. First up the good ones from my 200 ISO rolls. All UNEDITED.

"So there I am with my Canon Powershot trying to pick out the aircraft in the screen and all these
guys around me with bazooka lenses"
I Hear that- I was trying to do much the same by the west bathouse- lol  I had so much trouble with the glare I was getting off of the screen (I have a powershot as well), it was awful to use - I didnt even try during the Blue angels as I didnt want to waste their performance being frustrated...

Does anyone have a more specific take off time (from republic) for the jets today?
Some of it will be posted here:http://twitter.com/aerialevents

Been trying to get a show timeline rundown for a few days now. If that exists, Where is it posted?
It most certainly exists but for some reason this year they did not release it to the general public.Quote:

Anyways..... did anyone notice the two civilian aerobatic planes tailing the Golden Knight plane as it climbed for
altitude? Then they buzzed the jumpers with smoke as they came down. That was very cool.
And loved the way the Red Bull jumpers picked up speed as they roared toward the beach then hit the brakes at the
last moment. 8)
It's usually Ed Hamill who does that with the Golden Knights.Quote:

I know most of you were at the beach yesterday. Im torn between FRG or Beach today. . Original Plan Was Beach Sat & FRG Sunday.
Given weather for later today, I am leaning toward FRG today & Beach Sun. What are most of you doing Today & Sun?

Does anyone know why they Blues are using the 2-seater in position 4? I heard it's because the Super Hornets are coming so they are just trying to rotate the old stock so to speak. But it just sounded a bit weird to me.
Hope everyone has been having as much fun as me!
Had a ball today at republic - went to the meet and greet afterwards - it was great, made my daughters day- Me I just enjoyed the takeoff and landings ..a nice day overall..

As far as weather was concerned, with the openness of the airport, it was very windy and a little on the cool side. I enjoyed the weather and the planes. There was a dark gray C-147(?) that did a fly over at Farmingdale, however, it stayed somewhere else as it never returned. I look forward to the show at the beach tomorrow.
Mother Nature teased us this morning but the clouds burned off nicely for the second half of the show.
Windmiller looked amazing! I love that plane & am in awe watching him fly.
Hamster changed the sponsor, paint job & show narration. What didn't change was his precision flying. Looked great.
CF-18 had amazing music, unfortunately, they had to do a low show. Looked much tighter today and Boozer does a good job at working out that Hornet. I loved the Dirty Pass with everything, including the Refueling probe!
John Klatt looked as sharp as ever. He was missed last year and it was good to see him & his WOOO-HOOO Flip back!
The entire RED BULL team was amazing & it was cool seeing Chamberliss flying in person.
Loved the 106th. That HC-130 must have made 5 passes overhead @ 300ft or less! You can feel the props form that monster with every pass!
Julie Clark was amazing. It was my first time seeing her & I had tear in my eyes when she did her America tribute. Listening to her communicate to ATC & seeing her perform, it's no wonder she has the reputation she does. A class act & top tier performer all the way!
Sean D. Tucker doesn't look like he has a new plane! He flies the new one like he was born in the thing. I never get tired of seeing him perform.
Dusty & his A-10 put on an amazing demo today! I love watching him fly the Warthog, it's so graceful, yet intimidating at the same time. I can just imagine what that thing must look like in combat, it's a good thing I don't need to see it first hand!
The Blues looked better than I've ever seen them. I was so blown away at how tight they were & their timing was pretty much right on today. The sneak had people jumping from the East to the West Bath House! I love the new tunes & can't wait to see them again tomorrow & later on this summer.
I know the lineup was a little light on the Burners this year but I'm very impressed at how this show has grown over the years. It's extremely well organized & Wayne Boggs does a fantastic job at keeping the action going as well as keeping the show on time. Rob Reider also does a great job (as always). He kept the flow going so there was never really a lull in the action, even when there were no planes in the airshow box. He also has quite the singing voice as was heard during the opening National Anthem.
Great day today & with temps in the high 80's tomorrow, looking for another!
See you on the beach!
It was canceled due to lack of ramp space. Also it was a c-130 from the 106th that probably had extra gas and flew by.
