They could have used more blue belly, IMHO. There's too much white.

Wonder how much the graphics and marketing geniuses got paid to tilt the widget and make it red.
Citgo jet! Not bad, I like the retro font on the Delta but the widget should be up right. I'm guessing its sort of like an arrow pointing forward as in Delta moving forward. Much better the the Deltaflot tail they have now. So lets see we're back to the following Delta paint.
Old (i.e middle scheme)
Old New (Deltaflot)
New New (Citgo jet)
I kinda liked Deltaflot. I got used to it, and seeing the Deltaflot tails all lined up at a terminal has a nice look.
Does this remind anyone else of the old Canadian Airlines livery? (At least the red portion of the tail)

I like the two-tone red on the widget: http://media.delta.com/photo_display.cf ... ew=low_res
Some interesting quotes from the DL press release:
Quote:
Delta rolled out the first Boeing 757-200 painted in the new livery at an employee celebration in Atlanta and tonight will transform its delta.com Web site and install new signage at more than 300 airport check-in locations in Atlanta and New York City.
Each one lasted, on average, 4 years. :roll:Quote:
In 78 years, Delta has had 19 brand logos.
I love the nod about the 787.Quote:
The previous “flowing fabric” design required eight different colors (four shades of blue, two shades of red, one white and a clear coat), whereas the new livery requires only four.
• To paint Delta’s first B-757 in the updated livery took 54 gallons of paint.
• The new livery saves Delta at least a day in the paint cycle. The new design reduces by 20 percent the man-hours and out-of-service time required to paint Delta aircraft.
• With the advent of next-generation non-metal, composite aircraft, Delta needed a livery solution that covered the belly of the fuselage, which is currently polished. Painting the belly of a Boeing 777 adds about 177 lbs., or the equivalent of one passenger. NOTE: Delta has made no
decisions regarding future aircraft purchases.
• Delta expects to update signage in all its airport locations by the end of 2007 and to accelerate its paint schedule to complete the repainting of its entire fleet within four years.
This coincides with Delta emerging from bankruptcy today.
The tail reminds me a lot of the Decepticons logo:

Ahhhhhh my eyes!
CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP. Wow...CRAP.
Looks horrible. Here it is on a ex-Song 757

Anyone got a napkin? I just threw up all over my desk. Well, this sucks. Delta is my favorite airline too.
Horrible-Boring Livery, a real insult to the people of Delta. And while I hate the livery, love this cool shot !

As disappointed as I am with my companies underwhelming new Nevada Special Livery it actually looks good compared to Delta.
My two cents !
LGA777
It could certainly be better - if the blue bottom extended further up the side of the fuselage, and the font on the titles doesn't do anything for me, but as for getting you sick, that Germanwings plaid jet that Ron linked to the other day gets me dizzy!
Considering the 757 holds most liveries well, this really isn't very good. More boring and bland than truly ugly though... in my opinion.
It compares too easily with all the other new modern liveries... blah. However, I still think it is marginally better than Deltaflot.
Couldn't agree more.Quote:

You can see how "economical" (cough cheap cough) they were with the blue paint: http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=5967106
I'm really upset. Delta being my favorite legacy airline really messed up. They seriously should have gone back to the old Widget, when Delta was doing better and when it had more uniformity. I think that would have helped issues and brought back any pride people may have lost.. This is horrible. :(
EWW EWW EWW EWW EWW! That is about the WORST looking livery I have seen in many years! Its just so... bland! I hate it!
Wait a minute, I still thought that there were planes not yet repainted in the now-new-old colors. (new one up to yesterday)... I liked that livery, a lot better than this crap!
Tell me about it, this one makes the Northwest livery almost look bearable. I thought that scheme made planes look like model airplanes. I guess I am going to stop looking to my right from the tower for now on here at LGA all together.
Well, I feel the tail design itself doesn't look too bad. But as a whole package, it looked too cheap; particularly as a symbol of turn around and revival. It should be more uplifting and vibrant. But what we got is.... I am speechless...
I for one don't particularly like the current Delta scheme, so this is a step down, but not a drastic step down. One thing I like much better is the new DELTA typeface.
Quality livery from a quality carrier.
Actually Tommy it is in the original upright!Quote:

638DL, the new Delta scheme, is coming to JFK on the 3rd. Flight 9998, arriving JFK at 1250pm local. Someone go catch it!
-Justin
looks life someone with two hours of sleep designed it, i think its a little to soon to now introduce a new liverly since they just came come with one and they are finnaly out of bankcruptcy
I kinda like it. Its not the greatist but its not bad either. Plus I like the red on blue. 8)
I am curious from a hobbyist/spotter's point of view.
What is the rush to go out and capture something ugly?
Something that is going to be ever more prominent anyway? Theres no way for any occasional spotter to miss it in the USA.
Unless of course the scheme gets pulled in a few weeks due to a negative uproar - and becomes something rare.
Tom
I agree Tom this isn't worth catching at all. If it passes by, cool but its not worth running out for.Quote:

Reposted from the other thread.
I am saddened to see that it has become a reality and was hoping it was just (idea). In my opinion these new colors do not reflect the previous imahe, history of Delta. Even the colors are not "Delta themed any more" I still wonder what is going throuh peoples heads when they find something like these new colors to be acceptable. These new colors are void everything but nothingness. It just empty of anything "Delta. All of this just falls in line with a culture of mediocrity when it comes to a failure constructive implimentation of ideas.

Just when you start to think an airline is getting their **** together, Delta goes and does something like that.
"We're comingback strong, emerging from bankruptcy! Alright. Well, let's massacre out whole ****ing fleet!!!"
Delta brought a 757-200 painted in the new colors today around 1300L. It call was Delta 9998 and he did an orchestrated missed approach of 13R with a fly-by of Term 3 so the management on the roof (about 30 people) could see, at about 500ft or so and then landed 22L.
I disagree. I think that people want to go out and get it becuase it's rare...and that's one of the big motivations for taking photos of ANYTHING. How many other nasty looking planes do we go and get pics of because they aren't common? Many.
Though the scheme being rare will only last a few months until more and more planes are painted, the same thing was seen for the new Northwest and US schemes as well. It's very normal.
Such photos will get extra attention on Anet as well, for the same reasons.
...but Anet already has pictures of it, so they would not consider it a "hot" photo...I doubt JP would either.
I saw the flight number the other day and knew they'd end up doing something like that. Glad I sat at home today.Quote:

Noticed on highlights of last night's Red Sox game they already changed the signage at Fenway Park to reflect the new DELTA typeface. Wonder if the banners at Shea will be ready for the next homestand on Monday.
Their website was updated too and it looks UGLY in red. Turning it was even worse.
I saw the plane today at JFK for the second time. Honestly, I think it looks pretty good, bt it was a 757....I don't think it will look that good on the 777 or 763.
I just saw the 757 for the first time dropping a colleague off at the airport - I like the new scheme on the 757 - just wish I'd had my camera to get a shot of it...next time..
