I had believed that the departure for an A388 requires a 200' runway width, but this must be incorrect as I saw a Super A388 depart from Runway 22R this weekend at JFK. Rwy 22R is listed as having a width of just 150'. What is the discrepancy? :confused:
The A380 is approved to operate from 150 foot wide runways - actually 45 meters, which is 146.25 feet:

For runways less than 200 feet wide, they do require 40 foot wide shoulders on each side of the runway.
..and something of a fun trivia fact you may like. At LAX, RWY 25R is a bit too close to taxiway Bravo so A380 departures from the south runways is typically from RWY 25L. It's impressive seeing an A380 departure on 25L from Imperial Hill ...
Yes thanks I spent much time spotting at LAX and had great times except I missed the Concorde. LAX was always more spotter-friendly.
Even today LAX is super spotter friendly. Folks there don't even give it a second thought when they see someone standing taking photos of planes.
