As of April 12th Air Jamaica is no more :(
I just got word from one of my friends back in Jamaica at Air Jamaica that Carribean Airlines takes over on April 19th of this year. As of that date Air Jamaica employees will be redundant. I am soo glad that I have one more trip on Air Jamaica back down to the island before this travisty to Jamaica happens. Get those AJM birds while you can folks! Godspeed to the Lovebirds. The staff were always great, the service was top notch and the history of the little airline that could was colorful. Almost as much so as their last livery. I will post links as soon as they come up.

Though it's not a done deal it sure looks like it will be.

Okay so the big question...does Caribbean Airlines absorb the "Airbii" that Air Jamaica flies, or will they sell them, and just run the new routes with their existing 737's?

Its too bad AJM will be be disappearing in such a disgraceful way. I am sure it has been a source of pride for NYC's large Jamaican population. AJM is one on of the few remaining airlines with a very colorful and well done livery that had a power stage presence and identity. A few years back a Jamaican member of my church asked me if I would make a poster of an AJM airplane (A340) for his daughter who loved collecting images of the airline. One of the few plane I missed was the AJM 727-200. I saw it once as we were picking up our rental car at BWI and didn't have enough time to get my camera out. A nice touch that AJM had that was eventually lost was the Jamaican flag on the engine cowlings as you can see on the A310 and A321.

My first flight on a jet aircraft was on an Air Jamaica 727, exactly 20 years and 1 day ago. Can't believe it took me a while to connect that personal event with these news! (yikes must be getting old!!)
Interesting note, the seats were dark pink/orange just like the livery.
I'll always have a soft spot for Air Jamaica's Doctor Bird logo inside the tropical orange sun, it always captivated me. To me personally it's one of the most classic symbols of aviation. Pure tropical beauty. Air Jamaica planes sport the most gorgeous paint on this side of the world, but all good things come to an end.
The old livery was quite a looker too, here on my favorite Airbus:

JM will always live on, mon!

Lovis I'm afraid you would've had to be at the airport 15 or + years ago to have seen it lol
