Northeast Weather Today (1/25)
Woke up hearing some wind and rain on the windows...wasn't expecting so much wet out there!
LGA has the following "tempo", which shows it's about to get worse!
TEMPO 2517/2520 1/2SM +RA FG OVC003
Translation: Temporarily between 1700z and 2000z (noon-3pm local), 1/2 mile visibility, heavy rain, fog, clouds overcast at 300ft.
Let's hear about the delays you folks are seeing out there.

Its a good day for Aviation Photography,
Too bad there isn't anything good coming in. I wish we would get some snow :(
Re: Northeast Weather Today (1/25)
I guess you don't have the shoveling responsibilities at your place, huh Senga? haha
I don't mind the rain at all.

There's so much rain blowing past my office window right now it almost looks like snow.
Re: Northeast Weather Today (1/25)
LGA is currently on the ILS/LOC 13 approach according to the ATIS. JFK is of course on the ILS 13L approach. Both airports are under a LLWA (Low level wind shear advisory) so expect a lot of missed approaches.
Re: Northeast Weather Today (1/25)
Phil,
We used to have people shovel it for us...but I do it now.....I LOVE shoveling snow :)
So far this winter has SUCKED...
Senga
Re: Northeast Weather Today (1/25)
Lots of cancellations. Basically no Air Canada or Southwest service to/from LGA today. I'd expect to see some widebody visitors tomorrow.
Re: Northeast Weather Today (1/25)
JFK is having a good time. The wind equip is out of commission so they are using NWS estimates. The local controller seems to be enjoying himself though.
Re: Northeast Weather Today (1/25)
Current Delays
LGA: 5.5 hrs
EWR: 4 hrs
JFK: 2.5 hrs + JFK-bound traffic ground stopped until 2:30pm
TEB: 2 hrs
PHL: 1.75 hrs

you've got that right! just sat down at my desk at work and all i see on my log sheets is "CXLD" on the first 5 pages. we log 18 aircraft movements per sheet... when i woke up in the hangar this morning it sounded like a hurricane was blowing past.
Re: Northeast Weather Today (1/25)
The pressure is super low with this system. LGA and EWR are both reporting a surface pressure of 29.19.
I heard someone mention at work earlier that winds at 2000' were 70 knots!
Our main runway at WRI is closed for construction for the next few months leaving us only with a 7000' one. When it gets wet and windy like today, it's almost impossible for us to takeoff (we can only carry like 80,000 lbs of gas when it's wet and xwinds are greater than 10 kts). Add to that, the only approaches to the runways are GPS, VOR and TACAN ones (although there is a PAR, but you know how those go). Makes for some interesting times...

[quote="GothamSpotter"]And now the sun is coming out! Insane.
Walking into Penn Station it was clouds with breaks of sun. That was 4:40PM.
Train out of tunnel at 5PM and there were huge black clouds enveloping Manhattan.
Big sections of lower Manhattan were closed and people were warned to stay inside as gusts of wind close
to 50MPH was blowing debris off a 72 story building under construction.
I believe White Plains registered a gust over 60MPH.
Insane indeed.
